I like the shot from the point of view of focus, dof, etc. But I’d like to ask, was this captured in black and white or is it a conversion from colour? Personally I’d have preferred this macro (Probably a more appropriate forum for this image) in colour. Macros, by their nature, tend to focus in on a very tiny portion of an overall scene, thereby limiting the colour and tonal range available. Black and white, at this scale, can seem a little dull and uninteresting and flat. That said, I do like the image. I’d just have preferred to see it in colour. Just my tuppence worth.

Thanks for your advice Rob. I shot it in colour, but thought it looked better in black and white.
I’ll take another look at it in colour and see how it is. :)

Ach sure don’t mind me! The main thing, with any photograph, is that you’re happy with it yourself. That’s all that counts in the end. If you’re into this particular type of photography though I’d recommend that you have a look at some of Noely’s (Photography Ireland’s premier exponent of the macro) work in the Macro section and you’ll see what I mean about colour and tonal range in this type of shot.
