Lads, about time I stopped lurking and showed some support & contribution. :D
Thorsten (he’s a gem – a dignified and generous person to meet) tipped me off about this new forum and I’m glad he did, I think this is what is needed and it seems to be gaining momentum with the right sort of steering, so a big shout to SteveD and Mark – good job and thanks.
Myself, I’m a bit of a floater in photography for many years, and am coming back to it after an extended absence, and a switch to digital. Took me about 4 years to convince myself to make the move, as I can be a bit traditionalist/purist. I’m also a switcher from Nikon to Canon, so don’t care much for the academic debates around Canon vs Nikon & the like, I believe each to their own, just remember what you’re buying into, just like cars. Browse my gallery if it takes your fancy, it’s new and I’ll be adding to it in the near future.
I guess I’ll float in and out of discussions, so thanks for your support and I’ll contribute when I have something useful to say. It looks like the competition got off to a cracking start, and maybe set the bar for a high standard of entries. I hope it’ll inspire members to rise to the challenge, to opt IN rather than opt OUT, and hone their skill – me included, much needed!
Cheers lads & good luck

MarkKeymasterThanks very much for joining and introducting yourself to the members.
Hope you enjoy your stay here :)You’ll be glad to hear that I don’t approve of the old brand bashing ;)
Thanks again
MarkearthairfireParticipantTaraMemberstasberMemberHi Mark
Thanks for the welcome, there’s a lot of interesting stuff going on here alright. I don’t mind having a decent discussion on brands or technique or whatever, I think we need one another to open up our own minds – ergo a forum as a great vehicle for it. But you won’t find me in the kitchen when battle of the brains is on the menu! So, RAW or JPG was it? hehe..earthairfire
Cool name, in the same genre as an alias of mine at one point. I won’t give it away as I still quite like it and might use it some place yet. It take it your gallery is work in progress – never was quite good in Latin myself – but the pics you have up are breath-taking. Would love to see some exifs. If digital photography has contributed anything at all, it’s given extra reach to amateurs like me who can learn about a shot’s environment, plus accessibility of visual feedback via one’s own computer, rather than the time honoured skills learned in the darkroom. Its a new skillset.Hey Tara
Thanks and I like your flikr gallery too, it’s inspiring to look at other people’s pictures and get ideas from them. I’ve been away from photography for half a dozen years or maybe a bit less, trying to gain momentum but just not being able to. The time was right a year ago to switch to dig, and only now things are slowly starting to take shape and my interest is growing again. Not really a competition man myself, but things may change yet.earthairfireParticipantstasber wrote:

Certainly when putting up photos for critique I almost always put up my exif data (except the latest image on this forum, as I didn’t have it to hand!).
As you may have guessed from the Latin, I’m using a flash template to build the site, so only half the content on there at the mo is mine. All the landscape stuff is mine, but the rest is a work in progress. Watch this space… I’ll probably post up the website asking for a critique once it’s finished.

AliParticipantHey Stas, welcome to the site. Had a peek at your site, very nice work. Happy posting :)
ThorstenMemberStas – great to see you here. Good to see “the word” is spreading. It won’t be too long before all of Irelands photographers will be signed up here :D
RodcunhaParticipantWelcome to the Forum Stasber,
Had a quick look over your gallery and seen some nice shots in there…
See you soon!
RobMemberstasberMemberThank you everyone for your warm welcome, I appreciate it. I hope to be posting some more, of course, only time permitting! Well I’m all up for spreading the word and with any luck this will be ‘the’ forum for Ireland’s photo community. I still think it’s the right format with the right evolving culture. People are inclusive here and promote encouragement, which benefits everyone. Gwan so!
