Hi Ali, something about this I like and don’t like (if ya can understand that). Tree is right in the centre but I think the tree support to the right sets if off for me. I think maybe there’s a little too much long grass in the foreground, love the sky and technically I think it’s pin sharp and the tree is “lovelyly” underexposed. Have ya got a colour version?? Lovely image.

PS: I’m no expert though, so don’t listen to me.

Ali, like Brian there’s something I like and also something I don’t like. I love the silhouetted tree and the tree support, and I think your composition and framing – despite the tree being centred – is spot on. I love the grass in the foreground and that beautiful marbled sky. It’s the middle of the background that throws my eye; the row of dark trees separating the fields and building beyond seems to slice horizontally through the frame and spoil the silhouette somewhat. Just my tuppence worth…

Thanks a million guys for the great critique, i agree totally with both of you. My primary concern was the position of the tree.

    Brian.
Thanks a mil for the comments and critique, i”m not long at photography myself so i appreciate comments. :)
I can see what you mean about the long grass. Maybe if i burned the edges slightly? I must play around with the
shot again. The colour version is absolutely a no go lol. When i was shooting, i saw a great histogram so i knew i had
great range for a b/w version – the colour isn’t great i’m afraid, it was shot at twilight so light was minimal and the colours were
    very flat.

    Rob.
Totally agree with you. I might play around with the mid section (no pun intended :) ) and see what i can come up with.
Thanks a mil for comments and critique.

Hi Ali, got to admit to downloading your image so I could look at it in photoshop, I don’t know if its just me, but the picture looks much better there than on the web-
the trees in the far distance get their tone back, and the whole image lightens quite a bit. Do you notice a difference between your image in photoshop and the same image on the web?
would be interested to know- I’m having problems viewing my stuff in anything other than photoshop.
and I don’t want to work natively in sRGB.

colour management is wasting so much time for me at the moment-

Hy jb7, i don’t see a difference myself. I have the color setting set to SRGB in photoshop though!

Like the shot and think the tree being a little off centre works quite well. Lots of good individual elements in the image. Getting them working together is the challenge. The strong contrast in the sky is matched by good contrast in the foreground grass however above and below the horizon line lacks contrast. It has potential, stick it on a wall somewhere until the inspiration comes. Maybe consider a more graphic digital lith look.
