Dublin streets by night
-
SteveDParticipant
Went down to Dublin in the car, what is up with the traffic system in that city, no signs anywhere haha! Took me 30 minutes to find my way from the centre to the M1 lol!
There wasn’t as much to take photos of as I thought, but I did manage to take these. Feedback on composition is especially welcome! Shot in RAW, produced 2 exposures from the RAW file, then blended in PS. Not sure if I like the look or not.
AliParticipanti know i’ve commented on these already but WOW. well impressed here, i wouldn’t change a thing. I love the effect the blending gives,
slightly surreal but i love this. Super Steve, these are cracking, as usual :)jb7ParticipantReally like the first one, though maybe a little tightly cropped, a little context would be useful- maybe-
nice processing too, not overdone-j
RobMemberImpressive as usual Steve, visually sparkling and beautifully composed and framed. Can’t find fault with a single one. What I have to ask though is, where the hell is everybody? With the streets that deserted, you should have made the M1 in 30 seconds!!
Rob.
earthairfireParticipantFor me the top one takes the biscuit. Lovely colours and tones, complimented by the architecture of the bridge. Haven’t decided on the “ghostly figures” yet, but I’ll have another look later before I make any comments on that aspect…
Either way, nice conception and execution.

wjklewisMemberI think this technique / these shots would be great for commercial advertising, well done Steve.
JohnFlipflipParticipantReally really nice shots. I especially like the first one!
Theres just something about it that makes it more special IMO!
Dont really have any critique!
richiehatchMemberSteve… these are great images… the first has a great feel to it… i am a great lover of Architectural photo’s and have to say that these are up there…! I have seen the official photos of that bridge and these are a lot nicer…! You should get in touch with these architects….
They may be interested…! I had to take the official images of the second phase of the Liffey Boardwalk and a pedestrian bridge in cork for the architects that i work for and had many images with similar feel and lighting to these… They went down really well and have been published many times. Definately worth a try with these images…!

Brian_CParticipantSteve, very very good. Top notch as usual. Two things, the third one may have been better to have the two blue lights meeting on the left of the frame. Also in the first one the sky looks a little grainy. I noticed this in a recent night shoot I did, any idea how it can be overcome using controls on the camera not PS.
Steve, have you ever thought of turning pro. Your work is top top notch.
SteveDParticipantOk, I will respond to all the comments in just a moment. Before I do that, have a look at this……..
Something a bit different, which I am pretty pleased with! Would be interested for your honest opinions here.
SteveDParticipantSteveDParticipantOk so thanks to everyone for the kind comments so far. These were images which didn’t look particularly great on the camera LCD, but seemed to come to life when I viewed them on screen. I can’t wait to see what they look like printed.
jb7 – I kinda liked the tight crop here, but I do have another image I will post tomorrow which sets the scene a little better. Don’t forget to check back and have a look!
Rob – The exposures were typically about 30 seconds, which was long enough to stop people appearing in the scenes (apart from the first one there, doh!).
earthairfire – I am not sure about the figures either, maybe I would have been better stopping down the lens and exposing for about 1 minute. The postitive IMO, is that they add a little life to the photo.
Brian – Turning pro is not something I have really considered! The thought of trying to make about ?3000 per month from my photos is too daunting.
Not Pete the blokeParticipantThat first image is the pick of the crop for me Steve. but there is an unfortunate ghost figure or figures in the middle foreground – someone maybe stood loitering for a few seconds when you took the shot? I think the potential result is so pleasing that I would certainly return to the location and try to get the ‘perfect’ shot.
Brian_CParticipantthat b&w one is awesome, outstanding. Second I can’t see I just get a red x, that could be the filters in work though.
Steve, how did you do it, mixing the b&w effect with colour.
paperdollParticipantSteve I’d be interested to find out how these were done. I shoot in jpeg (did I hear a gasp of shock), as I don’t really understand the RAW file format and post-processing enough…..
