Havent really been out to take a photograph in months now, was looking around my PC
and came across this one. Nothing has been done except for a conversion to b+w and overall
increase in contrast which I did after taking.I think I should have waited for light to hit the lighthouse (no guarantees it would have though)
Hope its not too long to view all at once.
Thanks
MarkLoGillParticipantLove that shot Mark, partly ‘cos I love the location but mostly because of the light breaking through the clouds.. thats gorgeous and also the different layers leading up the image.
My only suggestion might be a levels adjustment to boost contrast a little more
Very well done:)

jb7ParticipantMarkKeymasterThanks.
Agree with the contrast. I’m always guilty of being too gentle with contrast.
Must find the original later and redo and then repost.
MarkKeymasterjb7ParticipantI hope you don’t mind me doing an edit, you don’t mention a preference-
this is almost like two pictures separated by a body of water; its difficult to see how the foreground relates to the headland.
the top part fits nicely into a square, and the horizon is perfectly straight, so this is what I would do with it…
Please let me know if its alright to mess with your picture, for future reference-MarkKeymasterMore than welcome to edit any of my photographs.
Here is another shot taken on the same day, taken in landscape.
Posted it a while back.https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=162
jb7Participantyes, I’m one of those people who expects exemplar horizons unless theres a good reason not to. Tend not to be able to notice anything else.
Have you heard of a Japanese minimalist photographer called Sugimoto? I saw a lovely exhibition of his in the Serpentine Gallery a couple of years ago.
Though I reckon he’d probably be ripped apart in this forum for putting the horizon in the centre of the picture. He might even be represented in your online bookstore, I haven’t checked.
MarkKeymasterNot come across that photographer, will go and do a search. Sounds interesting.
Of course not all great photographs obey the rules, be they the horizon in the centre
or rule of 3rds etc… Nice to break them every so often when the need arises :)Thanks for the feedback
