“The highlight of the V&A’s newly refurbished Jameel Gallery of Islamic Art is the Ardabil carpet, the world?s oldest dated carpet, and one of the largest and most historically important in the world” – Daily Telegraph
One of these died a death over in the People Forum, lets see if a move to the Architecture Forum and a snappy title makes a difference.
C&C, even harsh and unjustified, better than none at all-earthairfireParticipantWoah! That really freaked my head out at first! Trying to figure out what kind of crazy effect you had gone for, then realised it was just a mirror above the carpet! :)
From a recording memories viewpoint, I think this is great, but from a photographic view point, it holds no real interest for me. (you did say harsh better than none ). I’m trying to be constructive, and think of what I’d do differently in this situation, but in all honesty I don’t know! I’m not really sure that the subject matter is particularly suitable, without some kind of added interest (i.e. a really interesting character in the foreground). I’m just asking myself “what does the photo say”, and all it says to me is “ooh – a carpet”. I think perhaps if the photo was taken over someones shoulder (to give an insight into their viewpoint) that perhaps it would have had more meaning for me.
I’m really struggling to be helpful here – I hope I got my point across, without sounding partonising or overly-harsh.

jb7Participantthanks for the reply and the comments-
I would have thought the interest was in the space, but its good to have different opinions-thanks,

positronMemberI am don?t know much about photography, so feel free to ignore my comment ? I like this shot. I would have preferred if everything in the frame is sharp, especially the people at other end of the room, but I like the way you have framed it, the reflection, the lights appear on the reflection of the carpet etc. I think it would be interesting if this was shot a bit more wide (is that even possible? may be some post processing..) with people along the the middle of the frame, with same amount of carpet and ceiling in picture.
cheers.
jb7Participantpositron, you only have to mention it- Here’s the wider one, which would be my 2nd choice.
Thanks for the comment-

earthairfireParticipantDefinately prefer the crop of the 2nd shot – the girl looking in on the left really adds to the picture.
Tim
Jay KingParticipantNice shot…
I prefer the second one (with same colour as first) myself… as earthairfire said the girl on the left really does add to it… and “box it off”… !!
