Very nice pipekpic. Nice and sharp, lovely lights in the eyes and nice depth of field. :) I might suggest cropping the bottom right (branch) branch out of the picture and maybe a bit tighter around the head.

Wow! One of the hardest animals to capture in this type of headshot – brilliant positioning wherever you were?? And congratulations on achieving sharp focus on the crucial element with narrow depth of field.

I cropped it, and adjusted saturation, levels and contrast, and added a small border.

Nice and sharp and I like the narrow depth of field. Nice crop and frame Brandyman.

Thank you all for your feedback. :D
Brandyman, I really like what you’ve done with the photo. What softare did you use?
    How to make that border?

As an FYI, this was shot in Quebec
The following one has been shot in the same area. It was on the other side of the bank, down from me, so I could not get the leg.

Excellent first post Piketpik, good composition and dof, and Ross’ edit really sets it off beautifully. Nice work, and looking forward to seeing a few more.

I did it in PSCS2 but it can probably be done on Elements as well.
    Crop the image first.
From memory I then did an adjustment layer choosing the green channel, and boosted saturation and changed the hue. Then reduced opacity before flattening.
Same again, choosing reds, and boosted saturation and changed hue to bring out the red in the deer’s coat. Adjust opacity to suit. (at least I think it was the red channel – choose red, and then click on the deer’s coat and PSCS will automatically choose that colour for you)
Then I did a slight dodge on the highlights of the eyes.
Then a final adjustment layer – brightness/contrast. Both raised anything from 3-5% only. Reduce opacity as you see fit.
Finally – slight sharpen – be craeful not to over do it.

I have posted on another thread in the last few minutes how to make the border – do a search for my recent posts and you will find it in People forum. Very simple to do.

Glad you liked it – personally I thought it worked a treat, but you need to have a good image to start with and you certainly had that!

What a debut! Excellent capture, even as a head and shoulders portrait it’d work.
    Beautiful eyes on that doe.

I would love to know of any classes I could go to, to learn how to produce an and result like this. Great work all round!

The colour balance/white balance seemed way off to my eyes/monitor,
and so i took the liberty to adjust it. Here is how i think the colours should
    look.
