Hi everyone
Taken at 1 of my favourite locations, Portstewart, looking towards Castlerock & Mussenden Temple.

Very nice image… Nice subtle colours and composition… The movemnt in the water is perfect too… My only complaint is that ‘T’ shaped thing in the middle on the rocks… My eye keeps getting pulled to it..!

Yep, that’s my reaction too Richie. The “T” really does dominate what is a super shot otherwise.
Cheers people. I guess I’m so used to the location & seeing the T that I never imagined what it would be like without it.

Super shot. The T doesn’t bother me too much but it does intrigue me. What is it?
The pink of the sky is stunning as is the soft wave motion. Nicely captured.
Compositionally, the image is perhaps slightly weak but I can see you were probably resitricted in your viewpoint. I might have liked to have see a bit more of an angle on the foreground rocks and perhaps just a little more of the sea in front.
Still a top class image. The light really makes it.

I would be interested to know the technical details, such as use of ND Grad, shutter speed, time of day etc.Gorgeous shot !!
I have to agree with the others about the “T”.. I takes too much of my interest and curiosity from the shot – so I would remove it if possible.
Otherwise you’ve caught some ovely tones and movement in this shot… I can’t think of anything else that could improve it

Andy – the T shape is used to tie boats to as this is a little cove where they can launch boats from. Don’t think it’s used that much now, but it must have been used a lot by fisherman in years gone by. I think that’s why the T doesn’t really bother me as much as I know what it’s there for. I very rarely put the horizon in the middle, and in the original RAW file, there is much more sea to the bottom of the image, but there’s a lot more rocks in that area too and the reason I cropped it was to try and put as much emphasis on the rocks on the RHS (if that makes sense). :D

Terrific image Steven, incredible colours and composition. That T really does stick out, but it doesn’t take away from the overall effect of the image. Great sense of space and openness overall, and the sky is simply sublime. I know you’ve already supplied most of the technical details, but if you don’t mind me asking, what time of day was this taken at?

Rob – taken in the evening, just as the sun was going down. I think it was in the Winter time last year, when the night’s were a lot shorter. Perhaps that’s why the colours are quite subtle…
