Though I’m a damned non-believer I was pleasently surprised to find that the Druids of the Dark Moon Grove were very ordinary folk who like a good laugh and have a very sincere belief in the preservation of our heritage, which is one thing myself and the druids have in common. Con Connors, the Arch Druid, is as my friend put it ‘one of life’s nice guys’ and asked if I’d like to attend the celtic new year ceremony on Tara on Sunday night to photograph it. This is just one shot of a series, probably the most challenging event I’ve ever photographed! This was taken well after dark and is a fairly long exposure at, I think, ISO800.
The tradition back in the days was that all fires around the province were put out on this night and every family took a ‘pure’ new flame from the fire lit on Tara to mark the new year, as people did on Sunday night once more.
Great shot Cian!
This must have abeen a real challenge.
How long was the exposure?
Is it a composite from a double exposure or did everybody have to stand still for 10 seconds?
