I quite like this. I wish I was good enough with Photoshop to remove the fence though.

    Edits, comments and feedback welcome.

    Hey Pete,

No Photoshop expert myself, but decided to a quick play around with it. Square cropped it to remove
most of the fence and then converted to b+w using layers, increased contrast and used a layer
with the mode set to Darken to tone down the remaining fence. Not perfect and all that.

Probably better ways to do this, but anyhow I enjoyed playing with it. :D

Think I’m going to go out and find some old thistles like this one and take some shots.

Thanks Mark. I tried cropping it in almost exactly the same place as you, but I wanted the stem back. I think your conversion brings so much spiky contrast to the heads that the stem is better gone. The fence has disappeared … as if by magic! You’ve certainly convinced me that it’s worth keeping.

:D glad you see something in my version. Pity about the stem for sure

If I was you I’d cut the thistle and place it away from the fence and shoot away.

Would that not be cheating? It never even occurred to me! :)

Not at all. Cheating would be cloning out the fence :D
