I like it but, you know me, I would black the bejazus out of it. Grade 5 candidate if I ever saw one :)

Thanks for the comments, this is a shot of the end of the pier in Dunleary, I think they mostly catch mackerel here, but some people might think its pollock so I’d love to hear from them…
As for the grade 5, there are some really nice muted tones and detail in the big version, don’t think I’d like to throw that away, but I do take your point, it is the type of image thats suited to this treatment.

sorry about the schoolboy humour, but you know I love herring all your views…
ok, now I’m gonna be banned…

Nice one, i have the same problem as Freshphoto when it comes to taking fishing shots, always end up taking the rod instead of the camera. Only one complaint with this pic and that is a distracting highlight on the tip of the third rod in from the left, looks like a luminous tip but is out of place for a this shot. There also seems to be little bits sticking out of what i guess should be the water on the far left. Have you tried warming up the sky? Love the shapes and the crop.

JB7…not really a comment on your photo as such…but just to say that when i view pages off the internet I view either on a 1920×1200 or on a 1024×768 resolution….why I’m saying all this…cos if I view on the later screen res like alot of people will, you have to scroll across the page to view the image…and you therefore can’t view the image itself all at once…understand? Nice photo though

Thanks for your comments, John, I see what you’re saying about the light on the rod, I had noticed it and quite liked it, but as you mentioned it, I went back for another look and now I like it even more :D Its the only specular highlight left in the picture after I cropped out the sea just above the waterline. I think the sky is fine, I ve plenty of pictures of warm skies, but this is a different one- and about 3 hours before sundown-

That shape in the backround is the road under the pier wall, maybe it makes more sense in the bigger version. Anyway, it would be unthinkable for me to use the clone tool on a picture posted in the documentary forum; ok if I had posted in the landscape forum, but not here. I did have to think about where to post it, had to mullet over, so to speak, and thought this was the most appropriate.

Johnny, glad you like it, I think its 1024 wide, it looked a bit mean at 800w in the 2×1 format- I suppose I forgot about the frame to the left in the browser, I’ll probably never do it again.Though I don’t imagine its too big a problem in the grand scheme of things its good to respect the LCD. Denominator, that is.

Thanks again for the comments and for looking-

This is a really great shot. I love the silhoutte of all the fishermen all in different poses. I also like the light on the tip of the rod. It for me shows a bit of action somewhere in the shot. I hope you didn’t have to hang around as long to take the pic as it takes these guys to catch a fish. Sorry but I think fishing is the most boreing hobbie/sport on the planet.

Thanks Terry, glad you liked it, and thanks for the comment-
A friend of mine has a boat and sails out of Dunleary,
so anytime I have a camera handy I snap away at the fishermen on our return to harbour.
It was he who originally noticed the fishermen and asked me to take a few snaps on his camera,
now they wonder if I’m ever going to stop. Because obviously, I have that picture already, don’t I?
So the answer to your question, no, no hanging around-

I like all the different poses, and I was lucky to get this one, but I’d like a bit more separation between the 2 fishermen merging into one on the left-
though I think I just got away with it.

As for the boredom, I couldn’t say-
but as the biggest sport in these islands, I’m sure you’d find some disagreement-

Oh, forgot to say, glad you agree about that little bream of light on the end of the rod-

Love your image, graphic with a strong composition, has so much going on and yet it has a quietness about it. Love the monochrome tone also.
