I used Fujicolor 400 ISO film for this shot.

Sorry, this just doesnt do it for me.

Theres no real point of focus and it makes it hard to look at.

It wouldve been better if you had concentrated on one person!

For me…it’s just I’m finding it difficult as to what I’m meant to be looking for? I just know that photograph’s I like have to be aesthetically pleasing…and also have the ability to make me think…or question something. It’s just with this…well I’m afraid I’m with Flipflip on this one.

Some times I find it helps if I include a line or two to help set the scene before posting the shot. Perhaps you can tell us what you were trying to capture here Dave? I’m afraid like the others I’m left wondering as to what exactly it was you were trying to capture/convey?

Just think of it like this…if I was in Pearse St and photographed the platform….does that make a shot?

Considering some of the things I’ve seen in DART stations over the years, it may just do!

I was bored waiting for the tram to take me to the beach and I saw that those on the opposite side were just as preoccupied. If I was in Westland Row waiting for a train and had a camera with me I would do just the same thing. I like to observe other commuters.

Initially i would have agreed with the others on this but i think we all have a “bad” habit of glancing a a shot and taking what we can from that split second. I think if people spend a little bit more time looking at shots :) they might appreciate them more. I think you did well jools, :) There are 4/5 distinct groups of people in this shot and i think it makes worthwhile viewing. Well done.

I have to completely disagree I’m afraid. For this shot, if anything, I spent a huge amount of time looking at it because I was genuinely wondering what it was I was meant to be looking at. So it wasn’t a glance from me, it was definitely an indepth look. I thought there was something hidden somwehere in the shot.. a look or reaction on one of the people.. anything. In the end, it was just a shot of people. Jools said he was bored so he took it, I think this comes across in the shot. I’m kind of bored by just looking at it, there’s nothing to grab or hold my interest.

Thank you for your reactions. The shot was not intended to be boring rather to show a diverse group of people whose only common theme was waiting for the tram. Who knows where they were going or why? It makes me wonder though.

I think its a fine candid type shot – the only problem I would see with it is that the guy on the far left seems a bit motion blurred – otherwise its fine.

What I find interesting about this shot is that the head level of all of the people standing up is very similar, as is the head level of those sitting down. Perhaps to bring interest or focal point to the people themselves (rather than a platform with people on it if you see where I’m going with this) try cropping it to one of the golden rules. I also think an image like this works better if it is super sharp, the above seems a bit soft.

It does seem a bit chaotic with no centre of interest but it does make one think I think.
