Nice one Dave, like the way you retained the written detail on the cross and the very effective tight crop.

Interesting image Dave, and not a train station in sight  ,on a serious note i like the layout and the significance drawn towards the poppy flower, the shot tells a story and so captivates the viewer,my only niggle is the blurring seems radial if that makes sense? I tend to like the images with just shallow depth of field without having to add blur later.

I really really like, this. Selective colouring works and treat. Very nice Dave :)

I like this one, not usually a fan of selective colour, but it works with this one for obvious reasons. There’s a bit of a dilemma about not colouring the second poppy, but doing so would throw the composition out, so probably the right decision.
The inscription has great poignancy; the spidery handwriting, and a defunct regiment.
I do agree about the blur though-

Thanks for the feedback. I did not add any blurring I am sure. I will go back to the original and check though.

I have come across a number of other train station shots with not a train in sight. I took them at Wannsee between Potsdam and Berlin. Wannsee was the home of the Final Solution Conference so I thought the train station was symbolic.

I hope we remember what happened here.

Reminds me of Thorsten’s Night shots, as regards to feedback on ‘blur’. As far as I can see, his shot (first of the posted images) used nothing more than selection of aperture. Though it doesn’t appear ‘radial’ there was a question about a join or adding blur post factum. Maybe we’re getting too ‘perfect’ in our digitalness? Or potatoshop is getting scarily too real

On your image, Dave, I think the DoF is just right, the conversion is very nice, with just the right amount of contrast and mid tones and the selective colour of only the first poppy tells the story with the ‘spidery’ writing. I love the detail in this shot too, simple and clean.

This is the full frame of the shot. It was taken at F2 on a 50mm Canon lens on a 350D at 100 ISO.
