Dunleary again, Quite a mono image, the captured colours are quite a bit warmer than this. If anyone would care to do ab edit on this one to suggest alternative colouring, I’d appreciate it, along with any and all comments-
    thanks for looking-

    100% detail- alternative colour

I like it. I’ve tried to think of a valid “area of improvement” but I can’t. I prefer the colour in the full picture to the detail one. It could almost go in the documentary section for the wee stories it tells, or the people section for the people interest, or the “everything else”….oh … no… sorry… that’s where the glamour shots go.

I think the subtle shade you’ve chosen really enhances the mood of the shot. Good one.

    Got to agree with Pete

The toning in the first is lovely and warm.. I love Poolbeg in the background of the shot.. I think it balances interest for the eye in the composition.

Its a very nice image JB ;)

Yup.. have to agree. It’s a well thought out photo with very pleasing composition and as Lorraine pointed out, Poolbeg balances everything nicely. The choice of letterbox works well as does pretty much everything else. I know the background is meant to fade into the mist but I would be tempted to boost the contrast a touch more and as for the toning, I think the red that you used (although not as harsh) in the previous shot of Poolbeg would look great with this.

    Hi Joespeh,

I’m no expert by any means but I really like the first image. The only minor niggle (for me anyway) is those bouys, which I think catch the eye a little… Maybe you prefer them left in though? Have to agree about the composition, those chimneys really set it off!

    cheers,

    hi j
i like the first image. but when i see it, i imagine it as having a potential graphic design feel to it. something a bit experimental.
i just put up the contrast and adusted the levels. might not be to everyones taste.

Hello everyone, thanks for looking and thanks for the comments, I suppose this one relies on scale, and having a few concentrated points of interest set against a rather large backdrop. This would tend to get lost in the web sized reduction, which is why I included the enlargement. I agree its a nice picture, but its rather missing something, to make it into a really good one. I take a few pictures on the bay, and its difficult not to pick up those chimneys, so you might as well make the most of them.

This was taken not long after I got the D200, so I was still getting used to it, I notice I shot it at 1/20 at f16 at 200mm; I reckon I could have opened it up some more and still kept the backround quite sharp, as it is there’s probably some movement and maybe a hint of diffraction, I don’t know, I didn’t use another combination so can’t compare now.

Herr Doktor- wow- I might just keep that for my personal collection. I don’t think I would have thought of that one, though its interesting that you put the red back in the chimneys. This is a kind of a coleur du jour exercise, because the tones are so muted you can interpret them in any number of ways, my tobacco version was actually a lot less saturated than the original.

Ciaran, it could be more contrasty, and have the colour messed around with- I did get around to printing the red one (Bad Art) in the end- 2′ x 1′ – slightly different from the one I posted here, and again, not entirely successful. as petethebloke mentioned in that post, the right to left graduation isn’t good. This one could be a better candidate, because the sky is flatter, I suppose I’m going for a kinda ‘gouache’ look with it.

pete, take your point, it wouldn’t sit right in the glamour section, Lorraine, thanks for that, and Beef, I did think of removing thoise buoys, but they’re part of the bay, and I sometimes get up close to them, race around them even, so they’ll probably stay. They don’t bother me enough to remove them anyway.

God I go on a bit when you get me started, sorry about that, thanks again for looking-
