Curtain Kitten

Jay KingParticipant
Hey… couple of shots I took today. C&C welcome and appreciated (beginner level!)
Im not sure about the crop of the first one… I wanted to keep the curtain opening near enough to the middle, as that’s where curtains open from… But it just leaves the cat more or less dead centre… any ideas or does it work!?
Cheers,
Jay Kjb7ParticipantHello Jay-
Nice pictures, I think I prefer the first, the composition seems more satisfying.
Anything to do with photographing interiors is hard work to get right, in this case I think the shot is let down slightly by the drapery.
Its a nice shot, but what would make it prefect would be perfect curtains, hanging perfectly, perfectly lit.The colour is good, but the interior light above the cat might be a bit bright-
Its a shot that might be worth trying again, but maybe next time pfaffing a bit more before you take the picture.
Next time you try, I think you’ll be able to look back and see the difference-Sorry If I’m being too hard on you, I hate it whin I present a picture and someone ends up critting the curtains-

AliParticipanti looooove the first shot over the second Jay and probably just because it’s tone are that bit warmer. It’s an excellent shot, you should be chuffed with it.
I like your crop and love the space, i’d be inclined to go portrait… here’s my take on it. Very nice shot :)RobertoMemberJay, the first is my favourite too and Alis recommended portrait version is good.
Jay KingParticipantThanks for the feedback :)
I prefer the first myself… the second is a tight crop of a similar image to the first one and just something I tried… I guess Im pleased with them because I took them only 5mins after walking in the door the morning after my office Christmas party (early I know!) totally hungover with literally only 2 hours sleep! Ran up and down the stairs to get the camera and I could only just about focus my eyes let alone the camera itself!
jb7 – Thanks for the comments mate… and don’t worry you weren’t being too hard. I didn’t touch the curtains at all or try and fix them because it would only disturb kitty and it’s hard to get her to stay still for more than 2 seconds unless she’s asleep! The light is natural sunlight coming inside, and not interior lighting… I might try and use PS to calm it down a bit… Thanks again and Id love to try and re-shoot it… but I dont think Id ever get her to stand still in the same way/place again!
Ali – Thanks for your comments… glad you like it. Your crop was the one I was searching for but just couldnt find! Now that I see it, it seems so obvious too!! And yeah I am chuffed thanks, mainly cos of the state I was in when I took it lol!
Roberto – Thanks for commenting… The first is my fav too… and yeah Ali’s crop does suit it well :)
John GriffinParticipantNot a cat lover myself but love the first shot especially with the crop Ali did for you, made it a class shot. I take my best shots hungover too
