Miss Northern Ireland

Not much time for photography lately but earlier this evening I was glad I had my camera along when I ran into the current Miss Northern Ireland. I think she might also have taken part in the Miss World competition. Yes the lights in the background are a bit burnt out, but although I took a few other pics that didn’t have the lights I still liked this one best. Maybe because they give a more candid-style look.
For anyone interested in the technical details, I set the exposure to one stop under for the background and turned up the flash three quarters of one stop (to make her face look brighter than the background, when, in reality, it was the other way around). I used my 20D, a tamron zoom, at about 60mm, f4 and 1/50 sec at iso 400.
Nice portrait shot, but it’s just the over-smoothness of the skin that loses it a bit for me
lol, I guess you need good skin to get involved in Miss World contests.
(or at least good make-up!)

lol, she was really nice – a face that kinda stood out from the crowd. I thought she’d probably tell me to get lost when I asked to snap a picture but she was fine with it and we ended up having a good chat :)
Very well captured, considering that you just caught her in passing. There is one thing that strikes me though and that is that I didn’t realise that people could actually Photoshop themselves :wink: The make-up etc is soooo over the top. I can see that there is a beautiful woman inderneath but I prefer things a little more subtle. All that aside, the lighting in the photograph is really well balanced and the expression is very natural and comfortable.

And I like the picture too. Warm colours and warm expression. Could do with more texture on the skin.
