Thanks for the advice adding pics (I must be going blind)
Paddy “Shoulders” McDonagh’s old fishing boat at Roundstone, Co Galway.
Possibly one of the most photographed boats in the world, it appears everywhere on the web, so I had to try something different.RobertoMemberI like the colour boat in monochrom surroundings.
I would crop from the bottom upto the rocks and from top the white spot in the left corner.tomas.tornyosMembervery nice black&white work and very nice highlighted ship
I would also try to crop the picture, now the ship is neither in the centre line nor in upper third – third rule would maybe help. I know that rules are there to be bent, but it si worth trying.
so I would crop the top and also maybe left side…happy shooting
jb7ParticipantI like the colour you’ve chosen for the hull, and the colour of the rest of the picture.
but in general, I find selective colour a distractionIn this case,
I didn’t even notice the currach, beside it, for a good while after I opened it.I think that taking something off the bottom might help the composition,
there’s a very horizontal emphasis in the picture anyway-j
PeteTheBlokeMemberI can only echo JB’s comments. Most of the time I think the selective colouring is done just because it’s possible and not because it improves a photo.
Maybe you could post the colour version – I, for one, would like to see it.
tara1MemberI like it, lots of points of interest including the rain ( jesus when will it stop ) covered mountains in the background.
Roundstone is a beautifull little fishing village and recomend a visit by you lot cause on a sunny day the scenery is superb.
AliParticipantgorgeous scene, loads of potential but doesn’t really work for me. You could try a colder tone or even straight b/w. The selective colouring although creative is a bit too much with the tone, i fear though that without the colouring you might not have enough contrast between the boat and the water and therefore you lose your subject. I think go with one or the other, tone or selective colouring, not both.
