House on a Hill Under a Black Sky

I took these because I liked the way the sun was bringing out the reddish-browns despite the sky being almost black. Whether they work as photos, I’m not certain.

The first image is a straight conversion from RAW – not even a USM. No.2 is cropped and then sharpened slightly. Offer your suggestions (even if that includes the recycle bin).

    Hey Pete,

I like the first pic, the colors in the botoom two thirds really work well, but that sky is so dark an ominous that a b & w conversion may do something for it.

Second pic is okay, but I don’t find myself drawn to it as much as the first pic.

Thanks Ken. I prefer no.1 too. I posted no.2 in case the off-centre house was better.

I can’t see myself printing this one. I suppose I should knock on the door and try and flog the owner a nice picture of his house!

Well just to add balance…I prefer the second.. :)

To my eye the clouds look more threatening..maybe cos they are more defined..and I like the foreground element too and the curves of the hills in the background.

Thanks for that. Maybe I’ll flog ’em both then!
