this is my sister olga.
she is on a climbing frame in strabane. i tried to make it look like a holga shot by putting some vinaigrette in it.
feedback please.
You do know people out there DETEST when people put holga-esque effects on photos……

Well it goes against the complete principles of what shooting with a Holga is…

but I was tempted to add a comment when I saw Johnny’s-I’m kinda not sure how to take it,
as Johnny has not offered an opinion of his own,
but I’m assuming its not altogether positive-Whether or not there are kit fetishists out there who demand purity of form according to their self imposed restrictions is surely beside the point.
In your case, if you are going to attempt to reproduce the type of image formed by this particular camera,
then maybe it would be useful to have a look at some actual Holga images;
the examples displayed on these pages are far too small to get anything other than a rudimentary grasp of the effects they produce.Fair play to you for the attempt,
and don’t be discouraged by the shouting,
surely there can’t be a problem with the investigation into how an image is made up-
its an interesting excercise, if not altogether successful in this case.The people out there have been remarkably silent-

I’m not sure that a Holga Olga is the best approach for this shot ;) – but on a serious note I do agree with JB in the sense that you tried to explore a style you like, and I would like to think that people on the site who are familiar with the style might view this as a good opportunity to direct you towards a HOlga resource or two which might help you develop. . . . . Maybe !

I would just like to point out that the results achieved in Paddy Joe’s photo greatly outweigh anything that the crap Holga can offer in terms of quality and focus. A regular Holga user myself, I am chagrined to observe that my preferred choice of equipment has been outdone by a polaroid with a salad dressing.
However, I am uploading a Holga snap on a suitably foodie theme, taken with black and white film (Using b&w film in a holga is akin to filling your petrol tank with minestrone). I like the black and white meat.
But frankly, you can achieve the same results by downloading a thumbnail of a picture of meat off the internet, photoshopping it smaller and blurrier and making it black and white.Muksavage wrote:

Google “piece of meat” and you might not get what you expect.
Part of me tends to agree with you, though. Why do we try to improve cameras and photos all the time if shots like this are acceptable. I like PJ’s attempt at the style and it just about achieves the necessary quality in my eyes. Johnny’s shots are good because of his ability, not because of the Holga.

Dude…I personally think you’re quite wrong stating that. A quick flickr search for Holga…
Darn those holga’s and their bad quality and out of focus lenses ehhh? Muksavage? Over the last few weeks I’ve seen work from people with a camera worth 40 euro’s better than people who have gear in the thousands…having the best gear in the world doesn’t always make someone into being a good photographer.
Surely we can keep this thread dedicated to the picture PaddyJoe posted?
