Wicklow Gap Ruin

    Hi

This was taken near the Wicklow Gap earlier this year. I think the foreground is a little dark but would love to hear any comments.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

The image you’ve posted is very big and many people won’t be able to see it all at once. It’s best to resize to 800 pixels first.

It looks like a good shot, but the sky is slightly overexposed and the foreground is slightly underexposed. If you have a RAW file you may be able to correct this.

Thanks. Looks like a lot of good resources here, so look forward to looking around some more. I’ve resized the image above so hope it’s a bit easier to see now. Unfortnately didn’t shoot this one RAW….

This is a really gorgeous location balon and it’s a real pity you didn’t shoot raw as you could have done great things with it – i’m not sure how much you’ll get away with in jpg. I think it screams b/w. I did a quick edit to show you how i would have approached it. Involved a few things, mask for both the sky and the landscape, simple toning, burning, another mask for contrast, sharpening.

Think this one would be ideal for a B & W conversion.

Yes it really is a special place. I never considered this pic in black and white until now but do think it works. Thanks for the ideas..

Wow!! I liked the original pic …well done Balon..but the conversion to me is awesome. If I was doing that all I’d have been able to manage was a quick b/w conversion and maybe a lttle fiddle with the sharpness and contrast levels. But that is a whole different league Ali…

That is something I want to learn how to do… excellent!!
