Peter – Thanks a mil. :) More of this to come in the new year, i’m over in Manchester shooting in Feb, wrong side of the camera but i’m going to try and nab a few models while i am there.

Dad – Thanks a mil  She does look “worthy” of a new coat though … like “please buy it for me dad… i’ll pay you back” ;).

I quite like the pose, although she does look slightly uncomfortable

and the bone beneath her neck looks odd because of the pose

I think she has great legs and hand and i think a pose using them would make her look more sexy. I am not sure the pose is the most flattering.

I think she looks a little pale too.

But i actually do like the shot, and think it would be really engaging if she held the same pose but was look at the camera.

Nice shot Ali….but not mad on the raised leg. Might be better if it was viewed as a set than one individual shot

Have to agree with the earlier comments made on the pose – it doesn’t quite work for me either. But I’ll balance that by completely disagreeing about the complexion! I think it’s great to see pale skin. In fact I think a pale complexion has far more sex-appeal than tanned skin. We see so much tanned skin these days that it’s refreshing to see a naturally pale complexion. And while it won’t work everywhere, it works very well in this image.

I agree that the skin should not be tanned, but i think it just seems a bit pale to me, more missing colour

Thanks a million guys for the comments and critique. I enjoyed this shoot and i really appreciated how hard it was to make a full length shot interesting :).
In the end i compensated with slightly off the wall poses and angles (no surprises there). With the pose, i was basically trying to convey movement of some sort – hmmm not sure if it worked :). That said, i think the pose is either one you love or hate and as Johnny mentioned, it would probably work better as part of a series – and i suppose it demonstrates the importance of a series over a single shot.

The colour balance for this was set using a colour card so the white balance should be pretty spot on. Steve, agree with you totally, engaging the camera would have worked a treat. Thanks again for commenting all, much appreciated.

Ha, that’s what you get for using a colour card – flat, boring colours! Actually, the colours look pretty good to me. If anything is missing, it’s contrast, but I wouldn’t touch the colours. Having said that, I think the contrast is pretty OK too – it’s much easier to work with this type of image (where you can always add contrast afterwards if necessary) than one which has too much contrast to begin with (which is nigh on impossible to remove). Methinks fashion shots are generally are of a lower contrast anyway.

Best way to convey movement would probably have been to drag the shutter, but then you run in to more colour balance problems as the modelling lights become a more significant element of the overall exposure. Another option would be a wind machine (if you had one!).

:) Well if i learned anything from this site, it’s always to have a gray card or worse case scenario a white piece of paper at arms reach. You’re definitely right about the contrast and it has been mentioned before, even a touch more contrast would help. As for the wind machine, well i had one but i was in a bit of a predicament as the model had nothing on under the coat and the jacket was going all over the place. I had the machine to the front, the model was completely static so if you look at the bottom of the coat you’ll see a bit of movement but not enough to suggest she’s walking towards you. *sigh*
