earthairfireParticipantgerardkParticipantIf your buying from an irish retailer berminghamcameras.ie tend to beat conns.ie on prices hands down every single time.
positronMemberYou said you are looking to buy in Ireland, but if you are open to buying it on eBay or thru US, there is a huge difference in price. Amazon.com was selling it for about $70 last month – which is what, ?50?
I got a second hand 50mm 1.8 last month, and it turned out to be a Mark I! :)

Sounds like one of those Lada jokes (“Can you give me a windscreen wiper for my Lada?” “OK, sounds like a fair swap”).
I was going to offer you my Pentax 50mm f/1.7 for your Canon, but I didn’t want to risk it in case you’ve got one of the cropped sensor models :)
PippateeMemberI bought mine in Conns Cameras in Dublin..it was about ?130-?140…mind you, as mentioned before, the net is sooooo much cheaper and there really is very little risk…try digitalrev.com..only ?73 + shipping!! (keep in mind you may be caught for import duty as these come from outside the EU, either way it’ll only be about ?10-?15) and Komplett.ie are selling it for ?109 (no duty) plus about a tenner shipping…
the hard part is the waiting….
positron…ye jammy git gettin’ the mark I  …I’ve heard great stuff about them!!!
snaphappyMemberthanks guys great info there from you all digitalrev it is the value is unreal thanks again…..

Holy Guacamole, I bought mine for around ?80 and I dont think I will ever sell mine even though I have the f1.4.
There is seomthing about that lens, it is cheap and nasty but it sure takes a great pic!!positronMemberPippatee wrote:

This is starting to persuade me to seek out a Mk I ye know…
positronMemberThey are not all that different though. I read the optics are exactly the same, only that the Mark I is better built (metal mount & distance scale)!

http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=007YCgSteveFEMemberI feel your pain about Limerick. Went to to Halls on spec one day, thinking the “Canon main dealer” would probably have SLRs in stock. No chance. “We only get those in to order”. What a shower. What about the punter who doesn’t know if he wants a 400D or a 30D and needs to feel both in his hand before deciding?
As it happened I knew I really wanted a 30D and found one right here ;)
snaphappyMembersteve tell me about I went into whelans in limerick today for a look around (canon main dealers) and they had basically nothing 7 or 8 lenses tops now in stock. I know not every shop can afford to keep the like the big f2.8 telephotos in huge stocks what with the amount of money tied up but come on there are limits your either selling the gear or not when you go into a shop you like to pick the lens/camera up and get a feel for it not have some sales assistant with little or no knowledge of the gear standing in front of you with a brochure waiting for you to sell it to yourself and at top dollar too
