Alot of discussion going on about framing in camera. This is a shot i took a while ago, just after buying my D200. I usually try to frame in camera myself, but alot of the time i am forced to crop 10×8. Anyway, no cropping on this one. Comments and Critique welcome as always.
terryMemberHi Ali,
Lovely shot you have picked up a lovely shade in the sky. Lovely subtle tones all round.
Terry
RobertoMemberI realy like the composition of the photo.
I think that in b&w it would look good.AliParticipantThanks for comments Terry and Roberto. I tried it in black and white but i have to sit down and do alot more work on it.

Love the colours in this (and great framing by the way!) so I’d be wary of faffing about with
bw conversions to be honest. I imagine the image would lose a lot of the tonal range that
makes your original so appealing. Just my opinion anyway… very nice work.Rob.
Brian_CParticipantLovely image, I love the tracks as a lead in line and lovely composition. Sky is lovely to with a kinda pink and purple hint to it. Nice!
andy mcinroyParticipantSuper Ali,
The light in the foreground is wonderful and compliments the dark green tones behind.
The sky wouldn’t be completely believeable to me but it seems to compliment the dark greens. Was this filtered?
Andy
AliParticipantThanks a mil all :)
Rob: You’re definitely right, i find it rare that i get a shot that works well in both b/w and colour. this shot would need a completely different treatment.
P.S: For anyone that wants to take their hand at converting it, please do and post the results.Brian: Thanks a mil :)
Andy: the blue sky did absolutely nothing for the image so i added a hue and as you said, i think it worked well with the green and adds a certain warmth to the image.
No filter was usedThanks all for the feedback :)
RobertoMemberterryMemberHi Rob,
You have done a great job on this and yes it is a strong composition in b/w but i think it loses some of the eye catching content of the original. I think the glow of the sun and the subtle hues are lost in b/w and the image looks somewhat stormy, which as I say works too if you are looking for a different take on it. Just my take on it.
Terry
Positive PressureMemberThe warm colours add lots to this image; I don’t know why you you want to lose them. :) Another great shot Ali.

RobertoMemberI just wanted to show that the theme and Ali’s composition is strong for monochrom version as well.
AliParticipantThanks a mil Roberto for taking the time to do the conversion and displaying it. Really like it. What conversion technique did you use?
Terry and Peter, thanks a mil for the feedback. :)RobertoMemberAli, I used very simple technique.
I converted the photo to greyscale in the mode section. After that back to RGB colours and adjusted the contrast and brightness (using PS elements2).
