The sky in the first one looks as if it was originally washed out, and it has been replaced in photoshop manipulation? The give away lines are all around the tops of the trees if I am right?

While your images may be snapshots to some it is really what they are to you that matters.
Shoot for yourself, for what you find interesting and pleasing to the artist and photographer within you – the work of Picasso and many other artists was snubbed by many critics!!

I enjoy your images. Do what you do, for you.

The first photo has interesting colours. I miss the full length of the three trees. i would take less from the lake and go more up for the trees or go for portrait shot.

I’ve been loitering on the fringes of the forum for a couple of months now and I enjoy your images too, Jools – we can all learn from them.

It’s a shame about the decapitated poplars on the first one. I’m not sure where the lines are in the sky, but the smoke does look a bit odd.

Must be a great place for seasonal shots?

I like the 1st image Jools, the texture and colours on the trees. It’s quite a serene and inviting image. The sky does not seem to fit well with the rest of the image, a bit overdone. It would be nice to see another edit with the sky less intense maybe?

Thanks for the comments Paul. I didn’t replace the sky. I shot three exposures with exposures two stops apart and combined them afterwards. The sky part of the shot seems to have ended up looking a little strange though.

I used a 50mm lens and it was impossible to get the poplars in when using landscape format. I have a portrait shot which I have yet to process. I will reprocess this shot and try to tone down the sky a little. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks Pete for taking a look and offering useful advice. Did you spot the ducks motion in the second shot? This is the problem with taking three shots at 100 ISO.

Thanks Ming for your advice on sharpening on another thread of mine. I have applied it to this shot and toned down the sky.

Somehow with this one the poplars losing their tops is so much less noticeable than in the oroginal post, perhaps because they are near the edge of the frame. Perhaps just a slight crop of the right?A
nd I prefer the lighter sky.

Thanks Stephenie. Are you saying that I should crop to the edge of the first poplar?

Say 1/2 way between the present edge and the nearest poplar?

Dave the top shot there in your last post…..now that’s way better in my opinion since the original….just has more dynamic punch then the older flat version

Dave you’ve nailed it now. Number one of those last two edits as Johnny said. So much
more punch to it. Never commented originally because the image didn’t really jump out at me
so much. But the new edit with the stronger colours and tones is so much better.

    Rob.
