    c & c welcome…from westminster bridge

Nice skyline, but I feel there is alot of space in the sky that doesn’t need to be there, dwarfing the skyline itself. I hope you don’t mind, but I did an edit. I just rotated the horizon ever so slightly, pumped the contrat up a touch with the curves and used a lasoo around the sky to give it some extra punch, although I’ve lost some detail on the buildings. I’m sure you could pull that back if you were to re-edit from a larger file if it was shot in RAW.
Let me know if you like the edit.

yep, cheers, thats looks way better. Still don’t have an editing programme (other than picassa)…which one did you use. What does ‘lasoo’ mean in this case?

I used Photoshop CS2 here. A lasoo tool can be used to “lasoo” certain areas of an image to isolate it from the rest of the image, so it can be edited or adjusted without the rest of the image being affected (with the designated area surrounded by the “marching ants”) i.e. in this case the sky was lasoo’d and the contrast increased while the rest of the image remained unchanged.
You can download some free photo editing software if you Google it. I think GIMP is a popular one. Check http://www.gimp.org/ and see what its like. Hope it helps and glad you liked the edit :)

great thanks, ill d/l that GIMP programme (unfortunate name!) for the moment. Must get my hands on photoshop soon though, what should i be paying for say Photoshop CS2?

CS2 is very expensive. In the region of at least ?550 on amazon.co.uk .
Adobe Elements 5.0 is also very good, and at around 10% of the cost of CS2. Obviously it’s not as powerful or as packed with the full version of photoshop but it will have more than enough to do whatever you need to with your images.
Try downloading the Photoshop CS3 Beta version. It’s free as its still being developed and you might run into a few bugs with it, but thats why its free to download. Adobe want feedback from users to sort any bugs and see where it can be improved before they release a final version that you’ll have to pay for.

CS3 beta is only available to licenced PS2 owners (I stand to be corrected)

I’ve got a couple of original copies of elements somewhere that I’ve never used (came free with some hardware). If I find them, you’re welcome to one for free, if it’s any good to you?

    Hi,

I like the original picture, because there is more of the sky, which is not uninteresting in this case. But I guess this is to everybodys personal taste.

The only thing that disturbs me is the bridge in the foreground, which is not parallel with the film plane. That makes it look as if horizont were rotated, but if you look at the building in the back, they seem to be in correctly perspectively straight

IMHO Photoshop is one of the best softs ever. And I think it is worth every penny it costs. You can use it in so many different ways.
Pete: have you tried masking instead of laso tool?

I’ll be honest, I’m no photoshop wizard. I know how to create some laye masks but would not be sure how to concentrate no the sky alone, so please feel free to increase my arsenal of tools in PS please!

    Thanks.
