Anybody any ideas on this question-
I recently invested in a 42inch TV for a sepearte viewing station for the customers in the studio, trouble is when i connect my pc through a rgb cable it seems to lose information when displaying a slideshow. My primary monitor is fine but the plasma loses some of the info therefore have to scroll across to view it.I have called Dell.LG etc and they also cant sort this for me,would i need to upgrade my current graphics card? I ahve also messed around with the display settings and still no joy, would really appreciate any advise on the above.
    Thanks in advance… :D

Can’t help you out i’m afraid – but i do have a problem with my 37″ lcd, on some programmes (particularly movies), i seem to get this ghost image where the tv doesnt seem to be refreshing quick enough. If anyone can kill two birds with the one stone that would be great :)

Ben – when you say loose information do you mean that its there just off the screen and hence the scrolling to view it? If so its just your resolution on the computer does not match your plasma. What video card do you currently have in the PC? Does it have two VGA outputs on it? What make and model of TV is it? LG 42″ plasma’s tend to vary from 852 x 480 to 1024 x 768.

Ali – what make and model is your TV… check your manual and check the response times listed (not refresh rates) If it is 10ms or higher you will see some ghosting during fast action stuff…. if it is 8ms or less then this won’t happen as much, the lower the better. Some LCD’s just aren’t up to the job I’m afraid, with some companies fudging these specs or just not mentioning them at all.

    Hi MTB
The info is there alright but just some is not visible on the plasma,as far as i know there is two outputs on the back one directly hooked up to the current monitor and the second(vga) has a different connection attached to the normal rgb cable which runs then into the pc input on the plasma.I thought it would just be a simple as afjusting to the screen res but i bet its the video card thats causing this problem, will let you know the spec when i get into the studio tomorrow if thats ok!
    Thanks again.

does your plasma have a DVI input???

    i suspect not, but maybe

what resolution you runnning you main monitor at,

most plasmas are actually quite low resolution bits of kit, but the trick with them is to find the native resolution of the screen and run your output from your graphics cardat that.

a very cool little app for creating custom non standard resoutions is called power strip

it can generally make any res, this is a very cool way to make your graphics car doutput the exact res you need for ya screen
    .

ass for ali’s problem, what are you playing back from??? if its a computer, itsounds like you dont have both the native resolution and refresh rate set correctly on the output of your PC.

if its a dvd player or similar, i reckon it will either be a dogy cheap cable or some main noise

give me a shout if you want some more help – this is sort of what i do for a living

Thanks for that Steve, have found that link also through a fourum called AV science which highly recommends that too. The plasma only has a rgb 15pin input but has what i think is hdvi inputs which i had not seen before. I’m gonna try and set it to the native res and then try power strip if needed.

Its HDMI, which actually is basicaly the same as DVI but with copy protection hardware. It has been developed for the new HD formats, for example the new Sky HD box will connect to it via this

The cool thing is though, you can buy a little gadget which converts DVI to HDMI, and plug ya computer in this way, reason for this its a Digital connection from the computer to the screen and no analogue conversion going on, therefore no sync issues etc. Only issue would be if you have the screen very far away

Thanks guys, checked the response rate off the web and it looks like it’s 12ms, looks like this baby will be retiring to the kitchen or to a bedroom.
    Appreciate the help :)
