Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the most appealing crop of this scene. I had intended to keep it as a standard sized pic, but thought this widescreen version might be more effective?
Sidenote: Was blowing a hoolie last night when I was out taking this one… spray blowing up from the Liffey getting all over the lens… but then, it all adds to the feel of the shot, in a way (or perhaps you had to be there!)
Did I go overboard with the long exposure? This is the other shot, shorter exposure and standard crop, which I think makes the liffey look more turbulent/threatening…
Different colour treatments, different exposures, different crops… which do you prefer?
I like these alot. The exposure seems pretty spot on. I much prefer the cropped version and the longer exposure. It gives it a much more fluid feel to it. It’s unfortunate with the weather though, I find the water light refracting on the lens a distraction but thats beyond our control.
I find your leading line into the shot with the quay wall and railing doesn’t bring my eye into any focal point of interest while the brightly lit building on the far side keeps distracting me.
You’re a brave man to be out there in that weather! It has to stop raining soon doesn’t it? :(
I think I prefer the colour treatment of the second one – its a bit less lively but it seems to suit. I would probably crop a tad off the top just as the light is coming into frame too – I think the colour of the sky is excellent too.
