I like this shot. It certainly conveys how hard a job he is doing. You can see the sweat on his nose and you have handled the critical exposure of his face, the horseshoe and the fire really well. If I could make a couple of suggestions for improvement it would be to have a look at the original as I think your crop would be better if you didn’t crop off the bit of fire at the left…still works as a square crop to my mind but maybe the edge of the flame is in the original and you could give it a bit of space. There are also some dust specks on your lens which are showing up as white dots (look at his forearm and shoulder for 3 of them). Considering the atmosphere you were shooting in this is understandable but be aware that they show up (particulalrly on a darkish shot like this) and clean your lens before a shoot. Try a healing brush in Photoshop or even a clone tool to get rid of them. I would also try to blur the face in the background next to his left shoulder (another white spot just above this person’s head). If you have the model’s permission, send this in to a farrier magazine…you might be surprised!

I’m humming the first few chords to “In the navy” and “YMCA” looking at this pic.

    No idea why…..

Nice work Smitty. Good to see you back posting, and posting plenty too. Everything
Wavydave mentioned already is good advice and I can give no more. But well done and
    keep up the good work.

Excellent Smitty. You have access to some really original photographic possibilities there. Hone the composition skills and put together a series of shots of this type and I reckon it would be a blinder….. :D
