Landscape Photography weekend workshop

I’m considering doing a Landscape workshop/holiday type thing. In the back of the photo mags there’s a fair few in the UK, such as Peak District, Yorkshire coast, Scotland etc… What with cost of flights, car hire etc the price can creep up. Anybody know if there is anything like this in Ireland, I’d prefer to support Irish before going over to the UK.

Brian, I am thinking of going on a Northscape course later this year. http://www.northscape.co.uk

Let me know if you are interested.

That’s the exact course I had seen and thought it was a resonable prices too. Steve, do you really need to ‘take’ a course, you seem to know the differance between your aperature and your elbow, you’ve posted some real quality work on here. I’d defo be interested but I haven’t really thought of when to do the course, the Yorkshire trip seems to appeal to me, which would mean doing it in either March or Sept.

Landscapes are not one of my things, but could someone on this forum who has an interest not put a course together? Would Carsten consider it?

If anyone else has a Landscape Photography background and would like some advice on how to set up a course just give me a shout. This is something we should be able to do in this country guys. Anyone up for it?

Brian, I would be interested in the Holy Island Masterclass in September. The workshops are ok, but the masterclasses are much better value and you cover a lot more stuff.

Places are, however, limited to 6 per trip which means it is difficult to get in! Interested?

Steve, I don’t think I could justify 600 yoyo’s on a photography workshop, not yet anyhow. In fairness if some of the guys get something organised on here I’d seriously consider it. Maybe a new thread subject should be created and pinned.

I know digitalbeginner.ie suggested somebody start a landscape workshop and set up a business, as an alternative would be easier if we organised a weekend away (there’s lots of locations) two nights B&B dinner and a few pints and throw in a few quid for the support tutor. Tutor type person would obviously need to be highly regarded on here and pretty experienced and of course volunteer there expertise.

Never said anything about setting up a business. The numbers interested in this would be way too small. What I did suggest is that someone with experience of Landscapes could run a course.

One of the reasons good courses are so expensive is that you get notes and handouts as well. They do this because we can all only retain so much information at one time. This means that of all the info given out over a 2 day course only about 10-20% will be retained in memory. The notes help increase the value of the course by giving students something to go back over in the following days and months to remind them of the things they’ve forgotten.

As I don’t expect anyone to put the huge amount of time needed to get a decent set of notes together (especially if he or she is going to get just pats on the back and a couple of beers as reward), can I suggest that a particular book on Landscape Photography is used as a reference point? The course could then follow the book, but take local shots following the techniques instead. Also, critiquing would be very important as well so a laptop with an LCD projector would do the business here.

    Just my 10 cents worth.

This is great news. I’d be very interested in supporting this venture. I look forward to it.

PS I presume it’s an overnighter or two??

YOu have fantastic landscapes over there, I’m amazed that there aren’t more courses readily available. Landscapes isn’t my thing but I work with a guy who prefers the quieter side of photography :)
