The club meets every Thursday at 8PM until 10PM.

A real mix of people ranging from some very new to the photography workd to some of the old timers who still refuse to go digital.

We also have a wonderful lady who teaches the newbies in the club (including myself) that has shot film in over 20 years. All the newbies use digital but it still doesnt stop her giving us amazing advice.

I know somwone who went one night last year and left after about 20 minutes
He recons it was a social gathering for “the older generation”.

It was all retired people with no younger generation people there.

    He never went back . . .

I couldnt agree more but keeping in kind that the members who started the club still are regular visitors.

We are trying to sort that out and its going our way so bear with us youngsters

Sorry but comments like that make me sooooo cross. Sounds like it is your friend who has the problem. Some of these older members of camera clubs could teach him so much if only he was prepared to listen. 20 minutes to make up his mind is quite frankly pathetic.

    Hi Rossco,
I was there more than an hour and it was just a slide show that i found very bouring. The club is more of a senior citizens club than a photography club, alot of people (retired) there just go for the chat. If you think of the amount of young people in Galway who are big into photographand are not in the club is that not evidence enough. A few friends (all into photography) of mine are considering starting up an alternative club. If anyone is interested please let me know.

I’d love to go to a club that has a mix of old and new members.
Why can’t all us younger members go to this club and shake things up a bit.
I’m sure they are open to new ideas and members.
    ;)

    Hi Dee,
Thats a good idea. I know a few photographers who would join up if there were more people in there 20’s – 30′. I have nothing against the older generation and i agree we have alot to learn from them. I have a few people who want me to teach them the basics so maybe we could all meet up some night at the club give it a bit of young blood, Im sure the older people would only love that.
