Step by step instructions on removing the IR filter from a 350D including a before and after shot with the camera.

I’m a little traumatised, the thought of trying that myself . . . well it’s incredibly risky. I think I need a hug.

I’ve seen a few photos on pbase of people dismantling a 20D. Its remarkable how complex they are inside, but I have no intention of going anywhere near the screwdriver……..and I have to say the results of your 350D link hardly make the exercise worthwhile??

I will try to fight the temptation to dismantle my beloved 350D.

    Thanks Ali :-)

I’m not sure if they mentioned it on that page or on a linked page but I think I read that the whole goal was for better astrological results, apparently a lot of nebulae have very exciting things happening in the IR range. I just can’t believe that they’d do that though, I just get the feeling that the camera would never work quite as well (and I don’t just mean because of the before & after shots), I’d worry that the focal plane would get shifted or things wouldn’t fit together quite right or something. Those nebulae would want to be absolutely fascinating, like a life changing experience, before I’d be willing to risk my 400D.

I think you would be far better off buying an EOS 20Da for that type of thing and keep the 350D for general run of the mill type of stuff.

    Carlos.
