I was gifted a konica minolta dimage 7 and wonder is this an ok camera to begin with. The thing is and I gather this is usual for the camera is the battery drain is frustrating .is there an external pack can be bought ?.I have a few euros saved and wonder should I try trade up and begin my digital learning with a canon/nikon ,any recommends appreciated .

    Corky,

If battery drain is a worry – go and buy yourself rechargable batteries, better buy 3 sets then go out and use your new camera, try it out, see what it does – teach yourself what it can do and what it cannot do.

Only then would I recommend trading up or across to a new camera, prove to yourself that you can benefit from the next camera before you buy it.

It is important to realise that you do not need a good camera to take good photos – just a good eye.

Have fun and come back and ask for further advise as you need it.

I second Puckpics comments about the batteries. I just looked at the specification on this camera and it looks as if it shipped with 1700NiMH AA batteries. http://ca.konicaminolta.com/products/consumer/digital_camera/dimage/dimage-7i/page_spec.html
Batteries are now readily available at 2600NiMH, which is generally a measure of the battery life. (Some cheap batteries lie) Stick to ones supplied by a good photographic shop though and you should be all right. Any problems give me a call as we have them in stock in our shop. ?19.95 for 4

Speaking of batteries, I have the 7dayshop Rechargeable Ni-Mh Battery – AA Size (2700mAh) – Pack of 4 in FREE Case and find them excellent. I got several packs of them and they’re my main flash batteries now. At ?3.59 (just over ?5.00) per pack it’s hard to go wrong with these.

You can also get pretty good value in Argos for rechargeables. I’m using Uniross 2700mAh, also just over ?5 per pack of four, as my main flash batteries and have found them to be excellent.

The little cases are very handy. I find them great for keeping sets of four batteries together.

Watch this space for a soon to be announced alternative  Can’t say much more than that at the moment as it’s still in the planning phase. Incidentally, there’s always the option of idividual one-to-one tuition. Depends on what your needs are.
