Busy weekend this. Loads of photos to process. Came up to Belfast early and hung out at the harbour reserve for over 4 hours. Took loads of photos (Teal, Black-Tailed Godwits, Reed Buntings). Hopefully some came out. Pretty foggy here but not as bad as Dublin was. Did get to see a Sparrowhawk chasing down some waterfowl. Think I saw it take one down too (in the distance) – no shots of that. So many photos to PP!!!
It’s not illegal to feed them but its not a good idea, the pointy bits can cause serious injuries, they can be aggressive if they lose their fear of humans and can also accidently injure people, they are simply unpredictable when tamed, several people have been killed and seriously injured in Ireland by farmed deer. And another point (pun intended :) )male fallow deer are referred to as bucks and sika and reds are referred to as stags.
The scary thing was the couple in question started encouraging kids to do the same. Another couple had their kids chasing the deer. And two scumbags were out on their dirtbikes, on the grass, within 50 yards of the deer, deliberately revving to get a reaction. How something bad didn’t happen, I’ve no idea.
