Just wondering if anyone is willing to share what kind of markups they do when selling framed prints? I’ve read from a bunch of different resources that 2.5 is a good place to start – but then most of those places are American sites and I’m wondering if the initial cost of printing/framing is cheaper to begin with.
For example, say I can get an 8×12 printed and framed for €50 based on specific requirements. Is €125 a reasonable amount to charge your client? I wonder what the average going rate for a framed print that size is.
If you are running a studio with overheads and paying tax, insurance, etc. then you will need to make it 3 instead of 2.5. All framers and framing suppliers tell me this and they say that many framers in the large urban areas have to do up to 3.5 for survival. Remember insurance is important in case it comes off a customers wall and injury occurs, one may be sued for some sort of liability or shared liability. It is rare I’m sure but worth the peace of mind in today’s claim culture, but don’t lose sleep over it though.
actually any framer worth his salt, who understands his business does NOT price using this method. but rather material cost+running costs+ waste + markup
this is because the amount of work is not proportional to the selling price of the product
