Instead of working today, I grabbed my camera and got out into the city. I need some more practice to get back into shooting on the streets, but here’s one shot I managed to come up with. Standing in a LONG queue, this old lady decided to step out of line and take a peek at something.

I wonder what she’s looking at?

    Comments welcome as always

Nice shot Ciaran! Love the expression of the old guy in the flat cap (RHS)!!! Cheesed off with being dragged into town for shopping by his better half?

I agree with Steve..it is a nice shot Ciaran, lovely tones as usual in your conversions. But to be honest, it is lacking something for me, and I think it might be the emotional content that I’ve come to expect from your shots. Of all the brilliant photographers on this site..and there are many..your pictures have always inspired me the most…and I think that mostly it is because as well as being technically great, most of your shots have an emotional content..at least to me anyway. I think that is missing from this one..it’s like you really were brushing off the cobwebs with this one and it is one you most likely could have taken in your sleep…metaphorically speaking of course.. Still interesting…still well composed and executed…but missing that something that makes so many of your shots different, in my view.

Maybe I’m way off the mark….but I think the Street section has been a little quiet lately… it needs a couple of classic Ciaran shots to inspire us lesser mortals methinks

    Cheers guys :)

Robbie.. flattery indeed :D I’m over the moon that my shots can have this sort of impact. Anyway, I haven’t been around lately and haven’t been shooting close to near the frequency I was last year, so it might take some time to get back into the swing of things. Thanks again.

    Ciaran,

I’ve looked at this a couple of times now because I just couldn’t quite
get my head around it. There was something jarring about the image that
I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I thought at first it was the slanted lines
of the blocks behind (GPO?) that was making it look off kilter, but then I felt
that the entire image was actually tilted to the right.
Perhaps it’s just me, but I think the ‘true’ vertical of this image should be the
dead centre, in other words, the second woman in the queue, the one in the light
coloured jacket. There’s a very pronounced backwards lean there, and if you
look at all the people on the diagonal from the bottom right to top left, the other lady
and the two gentlemen are also leaning unnaturally to the right. I reckon a counter
clockwise rotation of a degree or two should sort this.
Aside from that nitpicking, great street capture. Nice exposure, framing and conversion.
I just can’t look at it without falling over… sorry

I think that it’s very good street photo.
The five faces on the front are great. The old gentleman with the hat is perfect. He is ‘breaking’ the look of other four, he just does not care if the comming bus is good for him. This is what I see, maybe wrong maybe not but it has emotion to me.
