Lough Gill Sunset – Another Attempt

Hope I have loaded this properly this time…
Have changed this to b&W using layers, gradient map etc.
Any tips on how to make this clearer, better etc. or is it worth it at all????
Be gentle first time poster….
nolongerParticipantAliParticipantLovely mood attached to this shot clawless, really like it. I think if the tree itself was sharper it would really set the image off. I’m not sure how much sharpening you’ve performed already, but it’s definitely worth pushing it another bit.
clawlessParticipantThanks for your replies,
I’d love to sharpen the trees & the little ray of sunshine (streak) along the tree but not sure how to??? Have used sharpen but not much happened… Any suggestions.???Thanks again
AliParticipantHey clawless, i’ve done a quick edit, will send it onto you. The problem with this image is, if you over sharpen you are going to have a halo around the edges of the branches – it looks like you have one forming already (you definitely don’t want to sharpen this). The only thing i would suggest is a selective sharpen, where you sharpen the image at various levels. I think if you just sharpen some of the mid section and leave the top and bottom third soft as is it will draw the viewer’s eye right into the middle of the shot.
clawlessParticipantThanks Ali,
Have you sent your edited version on to me?
How do you selectively sharpen – that exactly what I want to do.
Sorry for the silly ?’s…Thanks
cAliParticipantclawless, i have sent that on. There are loads of way to sharpen in photoshop. You can sharpen by creating masks from channels and calculations or you can just create the mask yourself by painting.
To create the mask yourself, you can do the following:
1. Create a duplicate layer naming the layer to “sharpen”
2. Create a layer mask using the tumble dryer icon in the layer pallette :) (*women jeez*)
3. Invert the mask (Ctrl+i).
4. Make sure your forground colour is set to white.
5. With a the brush tool, paint the area of the image you want sharpened. You can adjust the intensity
of the brush at any time by adjusting the opacity. (You might after all want to make some of the image sharper than others).Hope this helps.
clawlessParticipantThanks Ali,
The edited version looks great, how I want it to look..
I will give the selective sharpening a go tonight is that all you did? Thanks again, I am very honoured that you have edited my humble photo as I love your work on this forum.
