Waiting on the last train home..
Another shot from my city centre walk about from this weekend
RobMemberSuperb Ciaran, right down to the slight reflection of his sneakers
on the polished floor. Framing, conversion, dof, this one’s been nailed.
Bet this prints beautifully.Rob.
ExpresbroParticipantLove it!! That to me is trademark Ciaran :D It’s the kind of picture I always want to get..but sadly haven’t yet…
Quite apart from the technical aspect, the instinct to see potential shots like this is what makes the difference I think.
Well spotted and well taken.

8)SteveDParticipantHi Ciaran, nice B&W work and well finished for display. My eye keeps getting drawn to the top left corner. I assume that is some sort of sticker stuck to the glass? It would be worth cloning out I think, as it creates a area of higher contrast. Im not sure about the text beside his leg either. I can’t decide if it fills a space, or distracts from the subject. One more thing catching my eye is just to the right of his bag, on the edge of the photo. There is a tiny dark area (part of the bench I think) which might be worth getting rid of.
RodcunhaParticipantAnother great Street shot Ciaran, very well executed and superb conversion.
SteveD
Although I agree the top left could perhaps do with being cloned out I don’t agree with removing the text, the text reffers to Iarnrod Eireann (or Irish Rail) and places the photo in it context thus giving it a dramatic edge.Regards,
Rod
PS: Ciaran when will you run a Street photography tutorial through the streets of Dublin, would be fun to see how you spot and nail these beauties :D

Seconded :D Though might be a whole lot less inconspicuous with a gang of camera toting heads trailing along behind you…

my thoughts exactly…
I also thought, that I really like the shot… very well composed. Then I thought about how much I liked the sharpness of the subject. Excellent.
Then I thought about where my phone is, and then I thought about what to get to eat… I eventually thought I’d order a pizza cos Im lazy to make anything right now.
*goes to order pizza* :)
terryMemberHi Ciaran.
Again I have to take my hat off to you. I would give anything to be able to just go and take a shot of people and not feel uncomfortable about it. I have to agree the only part of this shot I would either crop or clone out is the top left corner. Otherwise it’s a fantastic shot. He looks like the only person left in the station.
Terry
ciaranParticipantCheers everyone

Steve, I had toyed with the idea of doing a lot of cloning to the shot, but for authenticity reasons (my new word for pure laziness) I opted to leave them in. The thing on the top left corner is actually the LED display for arrivals/departures. Anyway, I may get a bit of time to work on the shot again before printing it and if I do, I’ll certainly look at some of your suggestions.

Guys I’d love to say that there’s enough material there for a “tutorial” but really it’s all about walking around aimlessly for a couple of hours, hoping to spot a shot. More often than not when I go shooting I come home empty handed :!: The only tips I could ever pass on really are ones when I approach people and ask can I take their picture. A lot of people think this is a really difficult thing to do, where it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. So if you ever want to meet for coffee and talk about this aspect I’m happy to oblige. Also, I’m out and about most weekends, so if you do ever want to join me, so we can all walk around aimlessly looking for shots, I’d be delighted to have you tag along. Just don’t expect any magical tutorial ;) We’ll all probably end up going home with no shots

Practice makes perfect Terry. It’s really not that big a deal and once you do it a few times, it becomes even more so. If we do ever all head out, feel free to tag along and you’ll see how easy it is.
Thanks again for commenting.
v4hondaMemberReally nice moody shot Ciaran.
Did you apply some sort of a dodge n burning vignette to this one in PS ?
mgstParticipantGreat street shot works very well in b&w it looks like he has just about enough and wants to go home.
Mick
brookiedParticipantgreat shot, agree with last poster in that in looks like he really has had enough.
Very good

Cheers :) Yes, I applied a heavy vignette to the edges of the frame just to try and draw the eye into the subject. I do this on virtually all my shots with varying degrees of strength.

DarrenThanks Darren. I do have a website, although it hasn’t been updated in a while. If you click the little www button below you’ll get brought to it. Alternatively, just click here: http://www.thewonderoflight.com. For a lot of my more recent shots, which haven’t made it into the gallery section yet, you can click here http://www.thewonderoflight.com/misc
