Not great myself but agree this is a little hedge sparrow, I love
the first shot, really pin sharp and he is nicely placed on the old
    wood, great bit of texture.

Yeah…was just gonna say Prunella modularis myself….

Seriously though…Lovely shot Aiden. I really like that decaying tree stump that he’s sitting on in the first shot. These little guys are so hard to catch right though cos they usually don’t hang around for long.

Thanks for the naming confirmations. I like that … Hedge Accentor.

I was really luck with this little lady, assuming she is a lady. First, she came out of a 20 foot thick hedgerow. And she was really careful about her movement. Very slow, very deliberate. Her colouration is perfect to hide and I was lucky to spot her come out. She just popped up a few times and spent maybe 5 or 10 minutes grooming before disappearing back into the depths. I moved the lens around on the tripod really slow and was contorted on my seat. She knew I was there and watched me but was happy I as long as I kept my distance. I’d seen her before but couldn’t get any shots. She’s well named … Hedge Sparrow. She barely comes out from it, sometimes picking up bits that have fallen from the feeders as long as the bits are right along her domain. She will not venture further out.

Amazing photos Aidan, had a look at your website too – really sharp and brilliant colors! What lens did you use for these two photos, if you wont mind me asking?

    thanks!

Thanks Positron. I use a Canon EF 100-400 L IS sat on a low end Manfrotto tripod and just recently got a Manfrotto monopod with Calumet head. I’m sure you could probably do the same with a Sigma 70-300 (from a little closer) or a DG 50-500 (from a little further). The tripod would matter a bit more then because of the lack of IS… it’d have to be rock solid.
