AliParticipant
Today i shot everything and anything, I think it’s probably my first post in here  Comments and critique welcome.
Landscape and portrait crop attached. Taken with the 135 manual lens.
terryMemberHi Ali,
Lovely clear shot. I prefer the portrate crop although I would like to see a little more room to the left of the shot or I know it will bring the subject more into the centre which isn’t strictly accetpable but I think it would look better, alternately cropping a bit more off the top might get the same effect to me the subject just looksa little squashed in the frame at the moment. Its a really nice shot love the backround. You had a nice day for trotting around Dublin, I take it this was on the Liffy Wall?Terry
RobertoMemberI like the second one as it is. I think that for taking photos of the white birds (swan, gull…) you need filter, to bring up the details of feathers which are lighted directly by the strong sun. We have few expert of birds ‘shooting’ on board and I hope that they give us good advise.
AliParticipantThanks a mil Terry, I’ll try out a few crops and see how it looks. It was indeed the liffey wall :) Thanks Roberto, I must do a bit of reading up.
MarkKeymasterLike the second one also. Bird position is unusual for a nature shot, ie the back of the bird.
Nice though :)Pity the highlights are blown on the bird’s back.
joe_elwayParticipantNice and sharp. I like the crop of the 2nd as is. It’s looking into space. That was tricky light to shoot in. Lots of light on the left and the eye is dark. I wonder if playing with shadow/highlights might bring down the brightness on the left a bit?
paperdollParticipantI like the second one Ali, nice shallow depth of field. And although you’ve shot from behind you can still see the birds face, so it’s all good!!

Noely FParticipantgriangrafParticipantVery good for a manual lens and handheld I presume. Same observations as above. Whites are generally tough to get absolutlely right with wild models particularly in changing light conditions typical of Ireland. Circ. polarizer helps a bit. I’ve tried bracketing in the past to mixed results. Also faster lenses seem to help. You probably knew most of this already! Keep posting the wildlife stuff.
