 Wildlife ??? how did I get here ??
Hope these count.. there’s a very large and fairly approachable colony of swans at Bray harbour… I love them, they are so elegant and romantic hence the title – me getting carried away)
Anyway here’s a shot of them enjoying the weather yetsterday :)
C&C Always welcome :D

jb7ParticipantReally very nice Lorraine,
looks like I’ve been making a mistake recently
of trying to get too close to these things-The poetry of the title is more than matched by the picture-
though the L?r family looks like its grown a bit since I read it-Good to see you using the portrait format too-
j
RobertoMemberVery nice!
Usually I don’t like too much water on the bottom on this type of photos but here it has very good effect. Nearly like underwater…..RobMemberJeez Lorraine! Wildlife now! What next?

Would make a wonderful print I’ll bet.Rob.
Jay KingParticipantGreat picture, a well timed capture… I like it a lot.
When I saw it first it looked for a second like the foreground water was under water…. if you know what I mean!
LoGillParticipantJB – Seemed like an appropriate title :) the family is getting bigger and bigger – there were about 50 of them out of shot – bring some bread with you and you won’t be short of close-ups if thats what you want :)
Roberto – I was curious what people would make of the water lower down – its taken with the wide angle lens and holding the camera VERY low down as the waves came in and out .. (very wet toes ;) )
Rob – wouldn’t dare to assume an expertise in wildlife stuff – these were very obliging models and made it easy ;) Haven’t printed it yet – but will do :D
Jay – Thanks .. I quite liked the effect, it does kind of look like its taken from and underwater perspective – perhaps from a tank or something – ;)
Thanks for commenting !

joe_elwayParticipantWell thought out shot Lorraine. I think it was John who said last week something along the lines that it’s easy to take a Swan shot but it takes a bit more to make it interesting. This one works for me. The low shot and the wide angle give it a nice look. Really well exposed and I like the composition. The vignette gives it a nice feel too. I bet those rich colours will look amazing on print.
earthairfireParticipantAfraid I’m gonna go against the grain…
The colours and the swans look great. Unforturately I really dislike the vignetting effect – makes me thing 80s wedding shot (sorry!)
For me, lose the vignetting, crop out the water at the bottom, and have a great shot.
Hope you don’t object to the frank critique – I know the normal standard of your photography, so sure you won’t :D

LoGillParticipantThanks Aiden.. Glad you Like it
Tim.. Made me laugh out loud .. I can take it no problem ;)
L
John GriffinParticipantThis is a very nice swan shot, it has the edge needed for a swan shot that Aidan referred to me mentioning last week. I like the vignetting effect, only thing i’d do is crop about 25% off the bottom and print it 10×8 or bigger in that format, the only negative i find is the dead space at the bottom. Well done! :)
LoGillParticipantCheers John.. I haven’t printed it yet – but I’ll take your crop idea in mind when I do ;) Thanks for commenting

griangrafParticipantCianMcLiamParticipantI really like this too, it does seem as if the foreground is really an underwater view, you’d nearly expect to see little legs splashing about! Not usually gone on vignettes but here I think it works, isolating them and making it more intimate, as if you stepped into ‘their’ world. Only one thing though, it would make a transcendent difference if there was a tree lined bank in the background instead of a pier but you can’t have everything!

Like it as is. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks a million Cian, Glas you like it .. I agree about the pier in the background-I was thinking that myself when I took the shot – it certainly ruins the shot for camera club Wildlife competitions (no evidence of “man” ) – but so does the vignette. My PS skills wouldn’t be up to dropping a wood in the background … yet ;)
