Lia F?il and the eclipse
-
CianMcLiamParticipant
This is the Lia F?il or ‘Stone of Destiny’, the standing stone of disputed antiquity that was moved from beside the Mound of Hostages to the ‘Forradh’ or King’s Seat where it sat beside St. Patrick until he was moved closer to the church, fairly recently. Dont know what ‘ole St. Pat thought about being placed right beside the most famous symbol of a pagan fertility cult!
Taken during the lunar eclipse, the long exposure leading to the moons ‘white orb’ appearance.
jb7ParticipantVery symbolic-
but it doesn’t really describe the eclipse-
really nicely arranged
really good control of the exposure,
and a remarkably clear background.
The clouds are great too-very nice-
j
davenewtParticipantIt’s very, um… …isn’t it?!
Symbolic. I’ll go with JB.
Any chance you have a larger…. oh, no….
Great clouds, lovely effect you’ve achieved with the moon there too.
Is that a jet trail (???) just above the trees… I’d clone that out….
Shame about the huge stone phallus thrust through the manhole cover just before you took the shot!
(haha, sorry, time for bed!)
D.CianMcLiamParticipantThanks! Haha :) It’s outrageously phallic isn’t it! There’s a great story I was told by someone running a photo competition for school children, one little darling had taken a photo of the stone after a snowfall and they thought they might get pulled up on obscenity charges if they exhibited the stone with its snow-cap!
LoGillParticipantI have to say I love this shot :)
… but you’ve nailed it in my oppinion.. the detail and colour is spot, composition works for me – it wouldn’t look any less – um – if you set it to the side :) (Hmmm left or right … sorry ! )
I love the orange glow of the city in the distance … I think its just a super shot ;) you should be chuffed :)
L
RobMemberExcellent Ken.
How the hell did you get all the teenage muppets to
move out of the way for that shot?
Never seen the Forradh so devoid of tourists.
Great exposure.Rob.
AliParticipantAbsolutely incredible Cian :) You must be chuffed with this. Position of the moon over the standing stone, exposure, reflections. In my opinion, probably on par with your lunar eclipse shot – which may i add is super.
ExpresbroParticipantHave to add my praise to this one too. What a fantastic shot. Very productive night for you anyway.
Or should that be a very fertile night for ya
CianMcLiamParticipantThank you for the comments guys, I was up on the hill from half seven until past one am so had plenty of time to set up some shots of the Lia F?il and the Mound of Hostages and also took some pics of the druids having their little ceremony up there as well.
Rob, one or two people did walk through the frame but didn’t come out in the picture and just as I had got the focus right and lined up the moon and the stone a guy walked over and stood leaning against it! I got frustrated after about 10 mins and went over to ask for one minute to get the shot, turned out it was a man I know, a great folklorist and mythological expert. We had a great old conversation then he went off to extract any and all lore and myth from the two guys who sat playing drums all through the eclipse, giving me time to get a couple of exposures in!
Expresbro, never underestimate the power of the Lia F?il ;)
