Does anyone know where I’d get a scanner that can take APS film? I have about 400 rolls I need to scan which have no prints (long story :) )

There is an APS adapter available for the Nikon Coolscan range of Scanners.
Just checked on Technikdirekt – its ?230 plus the cost of the scanner itself ?660

You could probably sell the scanner easily enough when finished with it.

    Hi Dave

If you?re interested we could lend you (FOC) an Epson Filmscan 200 for a week or two. It is a SCSI based scanner (I don’t have a free card) and the latest driver I can find works on nt351, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 3.11, Windows 95, Windows 98SE and Mac 8.6+. Alternatively the APS carriage works with the Microtek 4000 scanner if you can locate one of these. We have it setup on a Mac and it works just fine. Give me a call if this is of interest. You may also like to try your local 1-Hour lab as they should be able to scan to CD and as it’s the quiet time of the year you might also get a great price.

Thanks Crowded House. Hope you’re not suffering from ‘four seasons in one day’ today :D

I’m following up with Technikdirekt as their info on the Nikon scanners just says compatible with Windows. I’m on a Mac so I’ll see what they say.

Sheldon, your offer of ‘free’ sounds very attractive, thank you very much. I have a Mac Blue and White G3 which I use as a server and could easily re-install any version of the Mac OS from the one that came with it (8.6 I think). I have a SCSI Card built in so that sounds ideal. You’ve just given me the excuse I need to pop out for the look around that I was planning to do since signed up here on PI (as always with life, you end up putting things on the long finger). Where is Strand St? I know Malahide but don’t know the street names.

I have a similar question….Im thinking of buying a scanner, mainly for scanning 35mm / 120mm negatives (The cost of scanning and or prints is all adding up!) I’ve heard the Epson 4490 mentioned, and it seems to be reasonably priced ( my budget would be fairly tight!). I’ve read both good and fair reviews …if anyone has any other recommendations or comments I’d love to hear them! Thanks

Download and have a look at the user manual here, don’t think you have to be registered, definitely come with MAC software.

I wouldn’t envy you having to scan that much film though….

Come into Malahide and at the main cross roads (The Diamond) head down the hill (New Street) and at the bottom turn left onto Strand Street. Were on the LHS beside the Vets. We have a loading bay outside if you’re not intending on staying for a cuppa otherwise there is a car park beside the Vets ?1 an hour. Give me a ring before to make sure I’m in. Otherwise if I’m out and about your way I’ll bring the scanner with me.
A Blue G3 is perfect. Try and put OS9.2 on it. An Adaptec 2930 card is perfect if memory serves me right.

Thanks Sheldon, the cuppa sounds great. I’ll give you a buzz next week to see when you’re around. Need to get some shots of Malahide as well, so 2 birds, 1 stone, perfect :)
