One of my first attempts at street photography…

This was taken this afternoon in Dublin, although I’m quite happy with the result I would like to know what more experienced street shooters think of this effort.

Ciaran, rip it off to bits please! :D

Just saw this on your flickr Rod.
Great feel to this shot. Lovely composition.
The blurred passer-by leaving the frame is almost as much part of the scene as the guitarist.

Love the feel to this, and as Hauke noted, the blurred passer by really adds to this.

I find the ad in the background a little distracting, but aside from that I love it.

    Great job,

I’ve tried to get shots like this SO many times and failed miserably. The perfect choice of shutter speed is what makes this work… you have the static figure pretty sharp and the motion of the moving figure behind spot on. It works really well… did you use a tripod or were you brave enough to hand hold 1/10″ ? Comversion wise it’s pretty nice too, so no complaints there at all. All in all I think it’s a great shot. I’d have perhaps chosen to get down eye level with the busker rather than shooting from eye level and perhaps have left some more room beneath the busker, but these are minor niggles. I really like it.. no wonder you’re pleased.

I am seiously impressed with this shot.
Like Ciaran I’ve tried this before but i’ve never gotten it right.
    I’m jealous of this one.

Just echoing the other comments. Really great shot Rod…a new street shooter is born…

I’d agree with Ciaran about getting down to the same level as the subject…but otherwise a really dynamic interesting street shot with a good conversion.

So can we expect you on the next ramble Rod? :D

This was hand hold at 1/10 with the 70-300 VRII lens at 70mm and f/4.5 ISO 100, VR really does wonders. Took a couple more with higher ISO’s (faster shutter speeds) but this was the one that I liked the most anyways. Also I didn’t went down to the eye level because the street was crowded and it took a while to have a clean view of him so basically I didn’t wan’t anyone falling on top of me.

I also don’t like the ad but anywhere I turned there was one, I suppose I could rip it off the wall but I don’t think the 5 guards just up the street would understand. :P

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Somehow I was always late on the previous ones and very disapointed not to make it at all. I will be joining you guys as soon as possible for sure, though I’m busy all the weekends till April now and that might make it hard to get there, but surelly I will join you on one of the upcomming rambles across town.

Hey Rod, very inspiring and something i have never tried. Lovely conversion and as stated, very well executed and composed. I’d be absolutely delighted if i had taken this. Super dooper :) Looking forward to seeing you on the next ramble.

I can only echo what’s already been said Rod – super shot.
You should get out and about more and do more of this
    type of work. Excellent.

Great shot… I saw this guy when I was in town at lunch today. Didn’t have my camera with me though (I was on a mission, and if I’d had my camera I would have been too tempted to stop and shoot… it takes a long time to get into town from Sandyford!). Great shot, and I too would have tried to get down to eye level with him, but I can understand what it’s like with the crowds (was he on Grafton St yesterday too?)

Yes he was on Grafton St yesterday too and I passed by him at about 5pm so you can imagine the crowds in there.

Nice to know he is around, when I go back I will get a print in the bag and try and find him to give it to him.

Fantastic shot Rod!!!! The blur of the background and the movement of the subject really brings live and dynamism to the shot. Creative and stunning view!!
