In the field with my new 200-500mm f2.8 Sigma EX
-
andy mcinroyParticipant
Rights folks,
I’m just back from my first outing with my new Sigma 200-500mm f2.8 EX.
My backs a bit sore, but otherwise I survived. Handholding this little baby made for some fun I can tell you. To be honest, I’m not sure it was the best choice for lightweight landscape photography, next time I’ll just take the 21mm pancake.
I’ll post an image of it just as soon as I’ve got it out of my boot.
Otherwise, do an internet seach and you’ll see what I mean.
P.S Can anyone tell me how to dig a pair of wellies out of three feet of mud?
Andy
andy mcinroyParticipantRight,
Here’s a photo. Can anyone tell me how to get my Lee Filters onto this. Thanks.
Andy
RobMemberandy mcinroyParticipantThanks Rob,
I’m proud as puch of this little baby. I call it the the Bigmamarama.
I paid for the 17,000 Euro for it through my microstock sales. Worth every Penny. I’ll be using at f22 to get maximum depth of field.

RodcunhaParticipantcarlParticipantAndy,
It looks like a beached whale!
I think its time to give it back to NASA now dont you, you have had your fun!
SodafarlMemberAndy, it is a brute what country are taking landscapes in and I know that you are in Norn Iron.
Sodaandy mcinroyParticipantSee how I’m keeping this site at the cutting edge. A user review up here before dpreview even has the preview up.
I spoil you guys.
Andy
carlParticipantAndy,
Being the new PI expert on large optics, would you care to do us a review of this one sometime when you have a spare million euro or two:
andy mcinroyParticipantI sold that one last week on ebay.
Pretty nice lens, but I had some fungus in mine. I was too scared to climb in to clean it out.
Andy
piketpikMemberToo bad they won’t provide the sherpa to carry it arround
http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/news/200_500_28.htma by 2 converter is provided with it… so on my d70s it would be a 600 – 1500
The camara looks tiny …
Next week I’ll start weight lifting…
joe_elwayParticipantYou won’t get many birds in-flight shots with that yoke. Given how much it’ll likely cost, I’d wonder if an EF 600 might not end up being better, even at a “slow” F4. F2.8 at 500 is awful shallow.
CianMcLiamParticipantI hear they have an attachment to fit it to the ball gunners under-body turret of a B17 Flying Fortress for doing wedding formals by flyover… (optional long range communicators for giving ‘say cheese’ commands from 5km away, sold seperately).
