Also shot at the same workshop as the images featured in my Window Light thread, these are more fashion style images, so it makes sense to put them here.

And before anyone says anything about the hair in front of her face in no. 3, I think it makes the image! :)

Thorsten another good set of pictures although I think the first set was better, can’t really put my finger on why but if I was to choose any it would be the second I thinkl it stands out of the 3.
    Just my 2d’s worth.

The girl in the first set was prettier :) Nice shots, not as nice as the other ones because the subject isn’t as appealing. I also miss the eye contact in the colour ones.

I suppose that is fair comment in the Fashion Forum,
    though I wouldn’t necessarily agree-

I’m comfortable, sitting on of the fence-

From a fashion point of view,
I don’t think the first one works at all,
its more of an ‘informal portrait’.

The colour ones are going in a good direction,
but I’m distracted by the view out the window in the first,
and the crop in the second is perhaps a little tight,
    with perhaps too much rotation-

In both cases, the garments look sloppy-
    poorly fitted, pinching,
and inadequately lit in the neck area-

Is there some barrel distortion in that lens-
if there is, then I’d correct it-
    if there isn’t, then, apologies-

I’m afraid I can’t see a real difference between the shots posted in the ‘People’ Section
    and the ones posted here-

    They are nice portraits though,
snd I suppose that’s what you were aiming to do in the first place-
I’m just not sure they should really be in here, in this section,
    without the observations above-

    ps,

I have to admit to knowing nothing about Fashion,
and it is the one forum here where I’ve yet to post a picture-
Would like to try it someday,
but will not underestimate the difficulties-

Thorsten, I think these are great! The model has very striking features, particularly her square jawline, and you have brought this out and made very striking images indeed. Is this model in Ireland? Your shots of her have certainly whetted my appetite to arrange a shoot with her. She has a very good ‘commercial’ appeal, probably more of a fashion/magazine appeal than beauty portrait if you know what I mean. I suspect that is why you posted them in this thread, so you obviously see her in the same light as I do.
Great work and dont let anyone tell you different.

Iryna is Russian and is based in Dublin. She’s only just started out in modelling having recently started a fashion design course. Personally, I think she has an amazing look, maybe I just didn’t do a great job in getting it across, but yes, it is a very commercial look and may not be to everyones taste.

Anyhow, being a glutton for punishment, I thought I may as well post up two more images of her. Are they borderline fashion or just mere people shots? I dunno, but I guess I wouldn’t have put them here if I didn’t feel they had some element of fashion about them. I sometimes feel that peoples definitions can be far too narrow.

I think the high neck line in these shots emphasises the width of her jaw bones making the shots look distorted, a low neck line would definately improve her.

I think number 1 and number 4 are my faves of the bunch. The model really does have an incredibly strong jaw, and from certain angles it’s not all that flattering.

    Hi Thorsten
Nice to see you posting a few in here again(Fashion), i love what you are doing here with available lighting(me thinks) This model is surely striking and yes her jaw-line is strong but maybe not for commercial but more so editorial type spreads. Your last few seem to work better so i guess a play with angles and shadow would maybe make it more softer, anyway its not a big thing! very hard to nit pick on such a good collection.

    Hi thor,

I think the model would be better off closing her mouth at least in some of the shots! I don’t know if she is trying to re-create a look of a famous model or celeb – posh spice springs to mind! – but it doesn’t do her any favours and seeing them as a set is even worse!

Having said that the shots are good. I like the first one being more natural. The thirs one though – the finger looks out of place and yes I get hair infront of the face CAN make a picture but on this occaision i think it is in the wrong place – maybe it would work better if her mouth wasn’t open?! That is my real bug point on these. Which is probably why i like the first one so much. Great pics tho mate… Oh and PM me about this month!
