Wexford amateur calling – 1 year on!

Hi All,
I’ve been peeking at this excellent site for a couple of weeks since I discovered it – it’s great so see a club culture to something so personal as photography. I’ve recently joined the Wexford Camera Club to learn the ropes and I’m hopefully progressing well. Tips and chatter on this site are a huge benefit to simeone like myself who have ventured into this “Sport”. :D

My gear – I jumped in the deep end with a Sony Alpha A-100. I had a minolta X-500 and in my innocence thought a Minolta lens will fit a Minolta/Sony camera – Duh! SInce got a stock 18-70mm, 70-210mm, 2x teleconverter, x0.42 wide angle attachment & stuch my neck out for a cheepo 500mm reflex lens. Nothing elaborate or below f4 until I know my specific interest. :wink:
It’s a bit long but hey, I’ve been gawping at the site for 3 weeks – I’ve a lot to say!!

your work, cant be bad if you are using an Alpha :)Welcome from a fellow “yellowbelly”. If you’re in Wexford Camera Club then you’re in a great end of the county for scenery, urban and wildlife. Can’t wait to see your shots. This is a great place to post and get genuine C&C without arty-fartyism or BS. You’ll love it!
Thank you all for your comments. It’ll be a while before I post anything – still trying to get to grips with what’s causing the void between what you see in the magazines and my out of focus, over exposed, badly framed attempts…I was never good at commending my on attempts at anything. :?
Maybe some advise on a website to display attempts would be helpful – cheap or free would be my preferance! Currently I’ve about 600 images which are still at a trial and error basis – about 10 I would display to anyone other than the better half…but given time!
By the way, I haven’t checked much on the other sections of this site but has anyone any advise on macro photography? I have the lens, the “macro” lens attachment & a ring flash. Any advice?

BTW, good choice of camera, I had the Minolta 7000 and Dynax 7, my lenses worked with the Sony. The X series cameras don’t.irishwonkafan wrote:
