River Boyne at the back of Slane Castle, Taken Today
-
MartinParticipant
Hello All,
Few shots i took today on the river Boyne.
Don’t see much infra red photography on this forum which is a pity
Let me know what you think. Any comments good or bad appreciated
Photos were take on a Nikon D70 i converted to infrared only. Lens is a Nikon D 20mm prime, no filters. Photos were taken hand held at approx 60th sec at F16 at iso200
My screen is not correctly calibrated so hopefully they do not come out to dark
LoGillParticipantHey Martin ..
You had a very good day :D ..Now that you posted four, I have to pick :) Sorry – its a charachter flaw :)
I’m not a huge IR fan, but I find these interesting …. The first is lovely, lots of interest in the image leading you through the shot .. But my pick is the second one of the tree.. Is there room in your shot for a landscape crop on that, I think the bottom foreground doesnt add to the shot , but space to the right might be really attractive – ( maybe ), and if possible a tinker in terms of contrast .. I bet that looks great with BW conversion :)
Good crop. Well Done :)

RobMemberMartin,
I know nothing at all of infrared photography, so I wouldn’t have a clue
what’s supposed to be good or bad, but I’ll tell you this much, I love these.
The first three in particular are stunning. Remarkable effect, almost looks
like snow in parts. If I had to pick a favourite it would be the first. Only quibble
would be that number three needs a slight counterclockwise rotation.
Really really nice work. Would love to see how this sort of thing prints.Rob.
pete4130MemberThey look fantastic to me. It really makes me want to break out my roll of colour infra red thats beein sitting in my fridge for a LONG time and shoot it.
Again, I think they look fantastic!Pete.
earthairfireParticipantGreat choice of subjects for IR. 2 stands out in particular.
Lovely set of shots you have – now go find a spare wall needing a picture :D
Tim
jb7ParticipantGreat shots,
not overdone looking,
which is a plus-Number one for me-
looks particularly idyllic-j
RodcunhaParticipantFrom a great selection I would have to choose Nr. 1 as my favorite purelly for it’s fantastic composition. Great IR conversion in all of them though, good work
Regards,
Rod
DavePParticipantI really like these images these images Martin althouhg I would’nt be a big IR fan. Can you get access to these grounds anytime or must you have permission from someone. I live fairly close by and wouldn’t mind having a closer look.
Thanks
Dave
mgstParticipantStunning IR shots i have tried IR before and got no where near as good as this.
MartinParticipantThanks all for the replies
LoGill: Thanks for the comments. I don?t think there is room in the picture for a landscape crop. I think I will try to get back to this seen in the next week or two and try to work on the composition. Definitely I think more room to the right would have worked better. I like the foreground though but I think that I have not positioned it correctly in the frame. I’ll try to post another attempt in the next week or so. Thanks again for the feed back it?s the type of feed back I like most
pete4130: Pete break out that role of infra red it will only go out of date in the fridge. Infra red is great fun I think and you don?t need to have perfect light conditions like colour photography for great pictures
DaveP: Yes Dave you can get access to these grounds very easy you don?t need permission at all. To get there drive to Slaine bridge and park the car. Then go down to the river (keep on the southern side) and follow it in a westerly direction keeping to the bank. After approx 12 minutes you will come to a style (might be a sign beside it that says something like Slaine District angling Club) Go over the style and follow the path. The path goes on for approx 1 hour until you are forced back onto the road. Well worth a visit you only live 30 minutes away go for it it?s an excellent location and enjoy.
Thanks again everyone
Martin
DavePParticipantMartinParticipantBest of luck Dave, if you take any nice pictures make sure you post some would be interested to see what someone else makes of the area. Parts of the walk are a bit muddy, if you have a pair of wellingtons might be an idea to bring them along failing that a pair of boots should do. Its an excellent walk along the river, in my opinion it’s one of the best river walks in Ireland you will think you are walking down the amazon:-)

AliParticipantExcellent work Martin – you’ve really made the most out of the location. Would you believe, this is about a mile from my home place and i’ve never ventured down that far. :)
Dave – look forward to seeing your take on the location
StevenHannaMemberYou have uploaded a very nice selection of images here, and I think my fav one is the 1st one.
I really love how you’ve composed it.
Interesting effect using the IR filter.Steven
Matt HarperParticipantvery nice. Number 4 works the best for me. good use of lines, leading your eye down the river. Looks a great place. Well done on a good set!
Matt.
