Thanks, I thing the tricky thing about the panning here is that the car are coming toward you. I don’t find it that hard and there are very few bad shots. I usually use 1/60 or 1/80 for them. Have when down to 1/13 before cause my camera’s mode dial wasn’t working so was stuck in auto!
Ya it a little out alrite. Have a look at this one, it a little better the front is still alittle off. There are just some cars I can’t get right. My brothers is the first s14 can never get a great photo of it.
I’ve not shot these, but I’m guessing you’re on single point auto focus, with the point on the left headlight, AI focus? That should be doing it! Even 1/60 should be slow enough, and give a good DOF on the car (assuming the lens shuts down a lot?).
As an example of what I mean:
Bet you never know a landrover would go that fast! Or at least as fast as it looks! ;-)
For the photos I took I was using single point focus in the centre for most and to the right if I thought that there would be lots of smoke. The camera was set to continous auto focus. With the ISO setting down low, there is not much trouble slowing the lens down enough. The landrover photo looks like a very long shutter maybe 1/25.
