How long does one need to photograph Berlin?
-
SteveDParticipant
I know it is a bit of a ‘how long is a piece of string type question,’ but for those who have been to Berlin …. do you think one week is enough time for a visit? Or would 2 be better?
Flights are dirt cheap at the moment, ?80 return!
Thanks,
SteveExpresbroParticipantActually Steve…that has triggered an interesting idea in my bored head.
Seeing as how flights have gone so cheap…maybe we could all watch out for one of those cheapie Ryanair/Aer Lingus deals…99c flights etc and block book a load of seats for PI members and do a flying(!!) day visit to whatever city is on special?
MarkKeymasterPixelleMemberSteveDParticipantMarkKeymasterrichiehatchMemberHi Steve…
I was in Berlin for 3 nights a few years back… Berlin is a massive city… before we left I scaled a map of dublin to the same scale as a berlin one we have at work… It litterally sat in the middle covering about 3-4 percent of the Berlin map… we did more of a modern architecture trip to be honest… make sure ye get to see the Jewish Mueseum and the new Holocaust Memorial (http://www.aviewoncities.com/berlin/holocaustmemorial.htm)… loads of scope there for super shots but I would say a week would be enough..! I went there with me Dads old Olympus OM 10 and it ended up breaking so I came home with nothing! Great…!
Talk to ye

Matt HarperParticipantHey Steve,
I guess if you did enough research etc, you would work it into a 3 day weekend. Although as Richiehatch says, its a huge place. Perhaps just decide on a theme/area to concentre on?
Matt.
GrahamBParticipantRobbie you rock great idea, put that in a seperate post.
Not sure about Berlin Steve but I ran out of time in Munich after a week.
Some seriously cool sites in and around Munich.
If Berlin is the same a week could be tight.NeellyParticipantSome seriously cool sites in and around Munich.
I am off to Munich for a long weekend in May, so could you point to the best places to see?
Thanks
GrahamBParticipantHead to the Olympic stadium and go up the tv tower.
Its huge ( something about one of the fastest lifts in the world.
Bring a wide angle and hope for a good day.
There is a church ( i’m trying to google ) that some locals call the ghost church.
It’s really tall but inside all the statues are made out of black rock. You can only see them when the
light hits them in certain way then they seem to be gone again. Not sure you could photgraph it but well worth a look.
There are loads of little things hidden around the city that if you get a decent tour guide they’ll point them out.
If you like street stuff head down to the undergrounds. Some of the buscars and performers are great.
Oh and it goes without saying that ( if like beer ) hit one of the local beer halls. Ignore the big names that you can get
here and go for some of the micro brewers. the beer is stunning.SteveDParticipantNeil, don’t forget to visit Neuschwanstein if you have time to leave the city. It is incredible.

Portugal is amazingly cheap for hotels and car hire in Spring, our car cost us just ?16 a day! The Alentejo region is beautiful, I spotted this guy was there a few weeks after me: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1021&message=22452501&q=alentejo&qf=m
My trip was research for a book on megaliths so if your not adverse to some of Europes most amazing and little known stone age wonders with no crowds, this is your place. http://www.shadowsandstone.com/gallery/2500254
ExpresbroParticipantWell…it sounds good to me…but better leave the organising to someone more capable…and willing
I’ll come up with the brilliant ideas if someone else actions them…
