Interesting docu Joseph… and I know I’d see photography..like any other artform..in a similar light to Winograd. It doesn’t really change anything..it just records a moment…captures the light. I feel the same way about music.
Sometimes it’s beautiful…even profound on occasion.
Its a profoundly useful way to look at it-
the reactions are all in the mind of the viewer-
who is allowed to read whatever they like into it-
an unstated subtext.
The film is useful too-
there are not many documents I know of
that record a street photographer in the course of their recording-
the man was a bundle of tics,
and the pictures are made in the blink of an eye-
His equipment is telling too-
rangefinder camera,
short lens-
one hand,
up close-
virtually nothing between him and his canvas.
I’ve threatened it recently,
but I think I’m going to use more film-
miniature film now too-
The blogger,
Michael David Murphy,
on who’s site the video is presented,
has written an extremely interesting 10 point plan for street photography,
which makes a lot of sense-
and very well written too.
If there was any justice,
it would spark a bit of debate here-
Maybe we should invite him to join up-
with a name like Murphy,
after all…
